The new season of ‘House of The Dragon‘ is days away from arriving on HBO Max: it will be this Sunday, June 16, when we see the continuation of this Game of Thrones spin-off based on the Targaryen dynasty, the most important house in the universe created by George R.R. Martin.
6 Things We’ll See in the Next Season of ‘House of The Dragon’
As you may already know, the ‘House of The Dragon‘ series is based on the books written by George R. R. Martin, so many of the events that we’ll see in this next season (and the possible subsequent ones) are already more than written in stone and we’ll give you a brief summary of everything that is coming.
As context, let’s remember that in the season finale, Aegon Targaryen was crowned king, while Rhaenyra (the true heir to the throne) took refuge in Dragonstone where she began to gather troops to start the war.
So then, she sent her two sons, Jacaerys and Lucerys to Winterfell and Storm’s End, respectively, to recruit her vassals, however, the second died at the hands of Aemond Targaryen and her dragon, ending the season there.
An eye for an eye
In the second part of House of The Dragon we’ll see a powerful revenge. According to the published books of the Game of Thrones universe, two men will be sent to King’s Landing to kill King Aegon. However, since they were sent under the banner of ‘a son for a son‘, they will decide to assassinate Prince Jaehaerys, the eldest of his three sons.
Aegon will decide to protect his next heir, little Maelor, who’s approximately 4 to 5 years old, and will send him away from the kingdom with a knight of the Royal Guard. However, along the way, both will be cornered by an angry mob and Prince Maelor will be dismembered alive.

Dragonstone Invasion
Ser Criston Cole will be in charge of commanding a secret invasion of Dragonstone, and will send Arryk Cargaylle to discreetly assassinate Rhaenyra. Let us remember that in the series there are two knights who are twins: Arryk and Erryk Cargylle; the former swore allegiance to Aegon and the latter to Rhaenyra.
According to the book, Arryk will infiltrate the castle, but he will not be able to fulfill his mission, because on his way he will meet his twin brother and they will fight to the death.

An interesting fact about this story is that the book mentions two versions of the story, one in which both swear love and affection for being brothers before clashing their swords, and in another, that this duel was much more brutal, both seeing each other as traitors and fighting until only one was left alive.
Rhaenys’ Death, ‘the queen who never was’
Ser Criston Cole will continue his crusade and go after Rhaenyra’s bannermen to punish them and kill them all, however, the queen’s allies will request support. Rhaenys, Rhaenyra’s aunt, will arrive at this battle along with her dragon Meley; meanwhile, the other side manages to be supported by Aegon and Aemond and their dragons.

After an amazing fight, Aemond ends up completely safe, Aegon is severely burned and even her armor merges with her body, while Rhaenys loses her life and is even so burned that it is impossible to recognize her.
Rhaenyra takes the Iron Throne
Now that Aegon is injured, he’ll take a year to heal all his wounds, but as there must always be someone on the throne, it will be Aemond who will take the position of Protector of the Kingdom, and his first order will be to go to Dragonstone with all his strength. , so he will take his dragons and his army to kill whoever crosses his path.
What Aemond doesn’t know is that Daemon Targaryen will anticipate this movement, so together with Rhaenyra they will attack Kings Landing and finally she’ll take the Iron Throne. Then the king’s council will be completely dissolved: Otto Hightower will be beheaded, Alicent will be taken prisoner, but Aegon, who’s still recovering from his wounds, will be secretly taken from the castle to an unknown location.

It is possible that the season ends here, but the story is not over yet, since the most important part of the series is still missing, so we dare to imagine that what comes next would be part of a possible Season 3.
Kings’ Death
Rhaenyra’s reign will not last long, because the figure of the Shepherd will emerge in the streets, a man who has begun to fill the people’s heads with conspiratorial ideas, alleging that dragons are demons sent to end everything, so the brawls will start to happen.
Rhaenyra must finally flee to Dragonstone with the little she has left and she must even sell her crown to reach her destination, not to mention that Aegon has taken refuge there, with her wounds already completely healed. He will be the one who submits her to his dragon, who will murder her in front of her children, this being her imminent end.
Don’t worry, because Aegon will also suffer a similar fate, as he has made many enemies, and during a trip, he will be poisoned and die shortly after.
The Rise of the New King
With the lines of succession fractured, it will be Rhaenyra’s youngest son who will become the new king: Aegon III, son of Rhaenyra and Daemon, so he’ll be the new king of Westeros.
All the information we have just told you is available in the book ‘The World of Ice and Fire: The Untold Story of Westeros and the Game of Thrones‘, by George R. R. Martin, so if you want to know what happens Next, you could take a dip into this story and learn the history of all of Westeros.
