Having movies and tv shows based on true stories is nothing new, it’s the way most creatives get their inspiration, but it’s very hard for the viewer to know exactly was is fact and what is fiction.
Sometimes, even the protagonists feel like the adaptations of their stories are too fictional.

Here are three popular stories that are getting documentaries by their protagonists to tell their own stories:
Pamela Anderson, Pam & Tommy
Pam & Tommy is an 8-part original Hulu series that fictionalizes Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s tumultuous marriage and the scandal that surrounded them after their sex tape leaked.
The series was created without Anderson’s approval or participation. People close to her have said that she refuses to watch the series, for it is painful that audiences are revisiting such a distressing period of her life.
This is why, on March 2nd, Pamela Anderson confirmed that she would be telling her own story in a Netflix documentary.
The documentary is set to feature exclusive access to Anderson, never-before-seen archival footage, and excerpts from her journals. It will be directed by Emmy-nominated Ryan White (The Case Against 8, The Keepers), and will be a documentary about the pop culture icon along with giving her the power to tell her story.
The Gucci Family, House of Gucci
Since the trailers for House of Gucci were released, the movie was criticized by the Gucci family for the way it was being depicted. This is why they issued a statement saying that they were “a bit disconcerted” because the film doesn’t have an accurate story.
Explaining that the production of the movie didn’t consult with the heirs of Aldo Gucci (portrayed by Al Pacino in the film) and that they reserve the right to protect the name, image, and dignity of their family members.
For this reason, according to Variety, the Gucci family is getting a tv show and a documentary from Sky Studios.
The documentary will be done as a series and is currently in pre-production but with a planned 2023 airdate, while the TV show is in the early stages of development. These projects are looking to narrate the story of the family, instead of focusing on the murder of Maurizio Gucci, like in the film.
Anna Sorokin, Inventing Anna
Anna Sorokin, also known as Anna Delvey, posed as a fake German heiress to scam the New York socialite and big banks out of hundreds and thousands of dollars.
Netflix recently released Inventing Anna; a 9-part series based on Rachel Deloache William’s memoir about her friendship with Anna Sorokin called My Friend Anna. According to Vogue, the series is more fiction than fact, with Rachel being portrayed complete differently to her real-life counterpart.
Now, it’s Anna’s turn to tell her story. She’s currently working on making a docuseries that will begin where Inventing Anna left off, with it taking place after her 2019 trial. The series aims to show audiences an insight into what makes Sorokin tick, and where she plans to take her recently cemented infamy.
It’s being produced by Bunim/Murray Productions, known for Surviving R. Kelly. Michael Driscoll is leading the project along with Rupert Dobson and Julie Pizzi. The plan is to take the series to stream platforms and broadcasters.
