Be inspired by love...

Ever read a novel that takes your breath away to the point where you end up hugging the book or letting a tear of joy fall down your cheek? Well, that’s the power behind romantic stories. Who knows who started this writing style for sure, but it has inspired readers to believe in love. If you ask me, I think it has existed ever since humankind learned how to write and read. For example, Shakespeare's play
Romeo and Juliet
touched the hearts of many, even before novels were starting to get published. We can recall a good romantic story from the 18th, 19th, or even 20th century, but truth is our century has great authors and they have put their hearts to work in order to keep romantic literature alive. Don’t believe me? pick any of these books and relive the wonders of having butterflies in your stomach.

Call Me by Your Name
(2007)

If you haven't seen the movie, this might be an excellent time for you to read it. The novel is narrated by Elio Perlman, an American man who grew up in Italy. Elio recalls the summer of 1980 when he met Oliver, a visiting student. Both are attracted to each other but struggle to reveal their feelings. Oliver and Elio have conflicting thoughts about their affair since being gay during that period of time was still very stigmatized. The novel will definitely make you recall what being young and in love is like.

The Mistress: A Novel
(2017)

Natasha Leonova was saved by a dangerous man who she now owes her life to. She doesn't love him, but feels gratitude for the man who protects her now. However, things change when she falls in love with an artist who works at a restaurant. Now she must maintain her feelings hidden if she wishes to protect him from her protector.

Alex, Approximately
(2017)

The differences between classic novels and this centuries’ has to be the internet. Particularly how it takes part of all our lives. In this story, Bailey “Mink” Rydell meets a boy online who she knows as Alex. They both have a common interest, films, and it isn’t until Bailey moves to California when she sets herself on a journey to meet her online crush. This novel can easily resonate with many teens nowadays who fall in love through pictures and online comments.

The Light We Lost
(2017)

This novels tells us about what happens when fate puts two people together but personal decisions pull them apart. The main characters, Lucy and Gabe, meet each other in college but due to career choices, both of them split and reunite all over and over again for the next 13 years.

At Any Price
(2013)

What's a better plot than a 22-year-old wanting to sell her virginity to a young businessman? In this story you'll find not only love, but suspense and intrigue. Mia Strong is a student with a gambling addiction. She comes up with the idea of selling her virginity to the highest bidder in order to pay her debts. The man who is to pay for her one-time experience is a powerful, rich, and described good looking CEO and business leader. Their relationship is strictly sex until they start developing feelings for each other.

Believe in Me
(2016)

Gabriel Salazar in a government psychological profiler who falls in love with a woman he feels he needs to protect. But Salazar hasn’t been one hundred percent honest with her. He still to reveal her that he was actually born female. This novel definitely adds a twist of suspense, mystery, and action.

The Fault in Our Stars
(2012)

We couldn’t let this list go by without mentioning this YA bestseller. What few people don't know is that this novel's title was inspired in Shakespeare's play
Julius Caesar
. Yet, it’s still a novel that will make you fall in love because it teaches us that although our time on earth can be short, there is still the opportunity to fall in love.

***

Of course you probably have your own favorite romantic novel which you adore. These are not all the love novels published out there, or in this century, but they are guaranteed to spark your feelings for good. Give one of them a try in case you have lost your way on the road of love, or just wish to embrace your feelings for someone special. Like Shakespeare once said, "love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind."
