I Wasn't Born For Your Approval, I Was Born To Be Extraordinary

In a society obsessed with validation through the opinions of others, the young poet Justine Keys writes to go against the grain. She makes a call to figure out our self-worth from within. The next poem is a statement of strength, an invitation to reject the opinions of people that try to take us down.

I WASN´T BORN FOR YOUR OPINIONS OF ME

I was born to make a difference in the lives of others

I wasn’t born for your approval

I was born to help others learn how to stand on their own two feet

I wasn’t born for your opinions of me

Being born different isn’t a crime

Wanting to look the same as another human isn’t what I am about

Trying to be like the IT CROWD eventually becomes lame

Is your opinion about me trying to make feel down about myself

or is it because deep down inside yourself there are a million and one insecurities that you have

that you are unsure of how to fix or get rid of ?

Anything you can do, I can do it too because I am ME

I can do anything I put my mind to

I was born a STRONG BLACK WOMAN

I wasn’t born to be ordinary

I was born to be great and EXTRAORDINARY

I wasn’t born for your opinions of me

The smile on my face and the attitude that you see are not because of your opinion of me

But the self-importance that no one can give but me

I was made in the eyes of God with beauty and GRACE

I wasn’t born a piece of meat for men to just taste when they damn well please

I was born to fulfill a greater purpose, not to be subjected to others

I WASN’T BORN FOR YOUR OPINIONS OF ME
