Binta Jalloh is a young American poet. Her verses reflect the pains and doubts of humankind, and the constant search for answers and signals that show us our value. Her poems "Shattered Beings" and "The Forgotten" are a reminder that as long as we keep in mind that we are not alone in that search, there will always be hope.

Have you ever wondered why they exist, yet it's as though they don’t?

Have you ever wondered why they are alive but they don’t bond or have the kind of

relationship with you as they should?

I’ve wondered why many times, but I can’t seem to come up with an answer.

For God innately created us to have a bond that can never be severed.

Yet, they themselves severed a bond that can cause one to beat at their chest and ask God,

why me?

Shhhhhh, silence, do you hear that; better yet do you feel that.

The beating of your heart, wait, hold on, the pounding of your pulse throughout certain areas of

your body.

It's telling you there’s still life.

That’s a signal from God to you that there’s purpose and destiny in you as well.

You may be done, dear beloved one, and feel as though there’s nothing left in you.

Not even a grain of sand to be precise; and without a doubt you say to yourself there’s not any

good left in you; you are quiet certain.

I’ve been there many times arguing with God.

But you see, I’ve come to know something about God.

He has so much confidence in you and me, that He’s willing to put it all on the line to show us

and others what we are truly made of.
