Selena Gomez’s health has been in the news especially since 2017 when she underwent a kidney transplant after years of battling with Lupus, an autoimmune disease in which, “instead of the immune system fighting off things like infection and cancer, it turns against the individual and starts acting on their own organs,” says Dr. Gary Gilkeson, professor of medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. About a third of patients with Lupus suffer kidney damage due to the disease, according to the National Resource Center on Lupus.
According to TMZ, a couple of weeks ago, Selena Gomez was admitted to a hospital after showing signs of emotional distress and was “despondent and emotional” while her white blood cell count was dangerously low, most probably as a result of complications with the transplant.
She was released a few days later but had to be readmitted after her white cell count did not improve. Apparently, this health issue has compounded her already fragile emotional state, and sources that talked to TMZ reported that she became emotional, demanded to be released, and tried to rip the IVs from her arm.
Although she had vowed to take a break from social media, the last week of September she announced a new collaboration with Ozuna, Cardi B, and DJ Snake for the release of the song “Taki Taki.”
Social media exploded with the news and #PrayForSelena in Twitter has become world trend. Some celebrities have showed their support to the singer with several messages in social media.
