There are moments in our lives when choices begin to show their consequences and our personalities and actions can be perceived as either pleasing or annoying. Leave behind the conventional and form your own opinions; you’ll see how the rest of the world takes notice. Though there are some who will simply pretend to be a certain way for the sole purpose of being recognized, there are those who prove their true unique personality.

The stigma once related to tattoo seems nonexistent in younger generations. Approximately one third of all millennials have some kind of ink on their body, changing the perception that someone is a rebel or trailblazer simply for having a tattoo. This, however, does not mean that there aren’t people out there persistently raising the bar by using ink-work as their own form of artful transgression. These artists create images that are unique, provocative, free-spirited, and, of course, rebellious. Curt Montgomery is one of these artists. He provides his clients with a variety of rebellious designs.

The Canadian artist uses subtle lines to create sensuous bodies that portray erotic female pleasure. Without taking himself too seriously, he sketches pornographic scenarios that pop into his head and has slowly gained a following among Canadian tattoo artists. Though he might not take himself seriously, he does take his work quite seriously. Thin lines and minimalism are essential elements that are never missing from his work, which always remains subversive and sensual.

His method stands out even more after finding out his background. Though Montgomery always had artistic aspirations, he’d never had time to practice his craft due to the bustle of urban life. So he cloistered himself in a town where the snow makes it almost impossible for one to have an active social life. For a year he did nothing but perfect his drawings while working part-time at bars. He practiced his technique for about eight hours a day until he felt confident enough to start tattooing.

Today he promotes his work through his Instagram page. His clients are able to have a say on what they’re looking for, but Montgomery ultimately decides the piece’s aesthetic. Sexuality is a central element, so there are quite a few who proudly wear an image of a woman giving a blowjob, a female squirt, or even a pair of wide open legs inviting the viewer to continue observing.

Female sensuality is admired but also highly censored. These tattoos show how this natural process should not be repressed and promotes women to take control of their bodies and identities. Montgomery describes his work as something fun but with a progressive undercurrent, making him an artist with a voice, a message, and an audience. He demonstrates that even the simplest line can become a form of protest against all of society’s negativity.
