Tattoos are often a phase, a fad, or even a form of identification. What once only belonged to particular communities and groups is now a symbol of status and social position. They’re no longer exclusively tied to gang affiliations, time in prison, or even social exclusion.
The women who told their children they’d look like delinquents and criminals can no longer use the same rhetoric when they walk around Whole Foods or the mall and see so many people with tattoos covering all or some of their bodies. Fashion magazines consider certain tattoo artists as some of the best designers and creators of recent years. It’s now even absurd to think of anyone not getting a job just for having one.
New designs come out, they become popular, and then make way for breakthrough trends. Obviously more recent designs tend to attract more attention. Barely anyone wants to have the portrait of their child or parent tattooed on their body, for the simple fact that it doesn’t look good. People have become more cautious when getting names tattooed, particularly those of romantic partners. There are more resources of inspiration than ever before, including references and nods towards a particular group or style.
Here we suggest a couple ideas of tattoos that will never go out of style.
Blackout Tattoos
Though these are a recent development, they have become one of the most popular trends for covering a region of the body in solid black or blue. Some chose it to cover old tattoos but others do it in order to join in on the fun. It requires quite a few sessions and a whole lot of commitment, but if you love it, go for it.

Dotwork
This design is a favorite of tattoo lovers. It’s done only with dots, which is why it is also referred as pointillism, in a nod towards the artistic movement of Georges Seurat. This technique creates an image through small touches, of diluted black tones and shadows, but the finishing effect is to die for.

Geometric Shapes
One of the most stylish choices out there allows for great meaning with great design by using geometric shapes to encapsulate keepsake emotions or moments. They are so perfectly symmetrical they will fill you with harmony and balance. To achieve a good image that won’t get distorted, there should be plenty of research made into the artist who is capable of doing it right.

Cursive Fonts
Hard as we try to prove there are more fonts besides cursive, from the classics to the freshest, there’s no denying this font always looks good.

Old School
These tats commemorate traditions and symbols from way back when. Sparrows, for example, are associated with the idea of returning. Anchors, being the safest object of seamen, represent stability. Sharks symbolize the courage of sailors and overcoming obstacles. Pin-ups, boats, hearts, nautical stars, roosters, and pigs, are other classic elements from the vintage era.

Watercolor
This is one of the most aesthetic and acclaimed styles, since it captures beauty through color. It all started as an experiment between artists Amanda Wachox, Ondrash, and Klaim. Despite it being a style not every tattoo artist can achieve, once you find an artist who is an expert, the results are gorgeous.

Minimalist
Simple lines are able to make your body into an elegant work of art. Despite being small, these tattoos are able to say more than large highly detailed pieces. This style is a great option for more private discreet people.

Just The One Line
This minimalist version implies a simple straight line that becomes a sexy stylish choice.
