“At the end, facts are not important, only the fantasy of having facts matters” — Marcela Serrano
Our minds have given us the precious gift of dreams. It is through them that we can become whoever we want to be; we can travel to unexplored frontiers and even reach immortality. Dreams are bodiless friends who we trust with our deepest secrets; they invite us to acknowledge and accept what we fear when we’re awake. In our dreams, all of our memories are stored, and as it happens with a movie, we can watch them over and over again.

The Spanish photographer Rosa Basurto uses emotions, memories and imagination as inspiration for her work, to take us to a world of mystery. Her pictures depict a fusion between reality and fantasy.
“Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.” ―L.M. Montgomery

The harmonious combination of shadow and light recreates landscapes of grey peaceful days.

The details of the images can be appreciated thanks to the quality of each shot and the proper use of lighting on the subjects. The postproduction process and photomontage gives magic to the image.
“A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells you the less you know.” — Diane Arbus

Basurto is known for making her series unique because her work is constantly evolving. Rosa Basurto turns her sight to new details, landscapes, and faces. She delights in finding infinite possibilities, capturing them and immortalizing them on film.
“I have worked on each series differently. In my first series, I spent several hours in front of the computer editing each picture to create photomontages I felt happy about. For the following ones I focused on the take, rather than the postproduction,” Basurto explains about the process behind her photos.

“If I could tell the story in words, I wouldn’t need to lug around a camera.” ―Lewis Wickes Hine

“I wanted to give my photos a more personal approach. At that moment my attention changed from understanding to capturing the true meaning of ‘nature’,” she explains regarding her series called Habitat.

“Photography, as we all know, is not real at all. It is an illusion of reality with which we create our own private world.” ―Arnold Newman

We fall; we stand up; we get our hearts broken, and we learn to love again. All the contrasts between reality and dreams can be found in the breathtaking beauty of Basurto’s photographs. She crafts a world, making it into art. Her pieces find a place in the corner of our hearts.

“The most beautiful photos are the ones which create memories. Even if you haven’t had the experiences just yet.” -Hersson Piratoba

We are part of the fleeting moments of life. Let us be unafraid of getting lost in the poetry of art.
