It has been eight years since the last book of the A Song of Ice and Fire saga was published and today, George R. R. Martin has said “enough is enough.” He said this as a response to an ad for Air New Zealand, in which they offer a trip to the island free of charge for him to relax and complete The Winds of Winter.

Martin jokingly said that he would be visiting New Zealand for the World Science Convention, which will take place on July 29, 2020.
If I don’t have The Winds of Winter in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done.
After the Game of Thrones series finally ended after an eight year run and against mixed reception, Martin is getting hands on what started it all: his books series. The Winds of Winter and it is said to pick up where Dance of Dragons left off, with the cold-blooded murder of Jon Snow in the hands of Night’s Watch insubordinate traitors.

This, of course, is conflicting. For anybody who watched, wept and celebrated the HBO series, what happens next in the books will be no surprise. Jon Snow was resurrected by Melisandre and then executed his executioners. Then he led the counter attack against Bolton forces and took Winterfell back . Having defeated the Boltons he was proclaimed King in the North.
Martin has since then been notoriously delaying the writing of the book, but at least he set deadline, even if it’s an unofficial one. However, this still doesn’t solve a problem. How will the adaptation that followed reconcile with the source text, which stopped actually being the source? Will Martin change some of the things we saw on the show? He has previously denied any such thing but after the reception of “The Iron Throne” and an overall disappointing last season, it might not be far-fetched to maybe think of a few adjustments here and there.
With all of the hype regarding the show, it’s true Martin has been attending many of the red carpets but now that’s it’s over, let’s just hope he is able to get back to it and release the darn book already!
