There are few things more painful than seeing someone we admire face a complicated illness like cancer. This week, Jessie J – the powerhouse voice behind hits like “Price Tag” and “Domino” – left us speechless as she shared that she has been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer.
She did it in true Jessie J fashion: unfiltered, emotional, humorous… but most importantly, brutally honest. While it was an unexpected blow for her fans, Jessie showed just how strong and brave she is in the face of such a challenging situation.
How Jessie J Announced Her Breast Cancer Diagnosis to Her Fans
Jessie shared the news on Tuesday, June 3, with a video posted to her Instagram. In it, she appeared both vulnerable and strong, explaining that she was diagnosed two months ago. Although she hasn’t fully processed the news, she felt the need to share it before the media could start speculating.

“I’m highlighting the word early. Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding on to the word early,” she said, making it clear that she’s focusing on the positives amid the chaos. She also revealed that she will undergo surgery right after her upcoming Summertime Ball concert in London on June 15.
With her trademark humor, Jessie joked, “I will come back with massive t— and more music,” though she later clarified in the caption that it was just a joke. In the middle of this tough news, even Katy Perry sent a loving message: “I can’t wait to see you so big-boobed and with more music!” True friendship at its finest.

One of the most sincere moments in the video was when Jessie mentioned that she would be able to keep her nipples, which she described as “good.” Jessie admitted that sharing this publicly brought up a lot of mixed emotions, but she knew that her story could help others facing similar challenges.
“I’m not processing this because I’m working so hard,” she confessed, but she also said that she needed the love of her fans, the same support they’ve given her during both the good and bad times. “I don’t want this to be any different,” she added, asking for a virtual hug through the screen.

Health struggles aren’t new to Jessie J. Throughout her life, she has faced various medical conditions, from being diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome at age 11 to a hospitalization in 2020 for Ménière’s disease, which caused temporary hearing loss in one ear.

Most recently, in 2024, she revealed she had been diagnosed with ADHD and OCD, speaking about how motherhood had both exposed and amplified these conditions.
What’s Next for Jessie J?
After her London performance, Jessie plans to take a break from her projects to focus entirely on her health. She was straightforward about this, calmly acknowledging that her priority right now is self-care. While the journey ahead won’t be easy, her energy, support network, and sense of humor make it clear that she’s ready to fight with everything she has.
For now, she is planning the surgery that will hopefully rid her of breast cancer, though she knows she will need time to rest and feel the support her fans are already showering her with.
