A cat to the rescue

What’s the background?

Captain Marvel introduced a cute feline character into the MCU, named Goose. Thing is, Goose isn’t a cat at all, but a Flerken, a kind of cat-looking alien with tentacles in their mouths and “pocket realities” in their bodies. These pocket realities are basically bubbles of space and time that link into other worlds.

So, what’s the theory?

As the theory goes, since Flerkens allow people to travel to other times, places, and dimensions, Goose will play a key role in rescuing the “snapped” Avengers. The idea is that, after Thanos did his thing, everyone who seemingly was turned to dust at the end of Avengers: Infinity War was really only put in a parallel dimension. And how to get them back? Through a Flerken, of course.

Tony the Wizard

What’s the background?

In Avengers: Infinity War, Doctor Strange used the Time Stone to witness 14 million alternate timelines in what seemed a matter of minutes. In every single one of those scenarios, the Avengers ended up losing. Except in one. And Doctor Strange appeared to know exactly what to do.

So, what’s the theory?

Tony Stark saw Doctor Strange do this. And there’s a behind-the-scenes video that shows Robert Downey Jr. wearing Strange’s mystic cape. So fans are suggesting that, somehow, Tony will master the mystic arts—perhaps by teaching himself, giving his brains—including the power to control reality. This would allow Iron Man to undo pretty much everything Thanos did.

That’s one Loki Banner

What’s the background?

Loki, Thor’s mischiveous brother, has been known for making everyone believe he was dead on multiple ocassions. At the end of Thor: The Dark World, Loki is shown to be impersonating his own father, Odin, and ruling in his stead. In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor exposes his brother and attempts to undo the damage. By that film’s ending, though, the two had reconcile and become allies. At the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos kills Loki after the latter tries to stab him.

So, what’s the theory?

The theory says that Loki was actually projecting his image (another favorite trick of his) at Thanos when he “died.” The idea is that Thanos only seemed to kill Loki, when in reality the villain merely “killed” a fake projection. So, where’s Loki then? Some fans came up with the crazy thought that he has been impersonating Bruce Banner the whole time, which explains why Banner was acting so strangely during the film. This would also explain why the Hulk doesn’t come out, and why Heimdall sends him to Strange’s location at the beginning of Infinity War.

The Mind Stone is worse than Thanos

What’s the background?

The Mind Stone has been known to alter people’s behavior and turn them against everything they believe in. More specifically, the Mind Stone has the power to control minds. This is what seemed to happen to Loki in the first Avengers (where he used his staff to turn several characters into his “evil” allies) and to Ultron in Age Of Ultron.

So, what’s the theory?

Some fans took to the online community to theorize that the Mind Stone is “alive,” or sentient—that it has a mind and will of its own, that it can see the future, its own destruction in Infinity War, and thus took the steps to prevent it. So, just as it had controlled Loki and Ultron before, it controlled Thanos as well. So, Thanos is really not a bad guy at all, but merely another victim of the Stone’s powers—the mastermind behind this whole mess is actually and Infinity Stone itself. Killing half the universe was just a way for the Stone to reverse its own fate. The Mind Stone could also be purely evil, always looking for a way to destroy life anyway.

Ant-Man will kill Thanos… from the inside

What’s the background?

Through his suit, Ant-Man has the unique ability to change sizes at will. He can either become really, really small, or else really, really big. Ant-Man has gotten to the size of an ant (duh!) on several occasions just so he can enter someone else’s suit—like Falcon’s and Iron Man’s—and sabotage it from within. It’s a favorite tactic of his.

So, what’s the theory?

Ok, this one’s as crazy and unlikely as it is funny. But it could make sense, if you think about it. The idea is that Ant-Man shrinks to the size of a cell, enters Thanos body through its buttocks for some reason (the theory is oddly specific) and expands while inside, killing Thanos in the process. A horrible way to go, no doubt. But that would be too graphic for a Marvel film… right?

Anyway, no matter what ends up happening in the upcoming Avengers: Endgame, these theories are worth considering just for the sheer craziness of what they imply. There’s some truly creative people out there.

Avengers: Endgame will be out in China on April 24, 2019 and in the United States on April 26.
