The second episode of the eighth (and final) season of Game of Thrones left us waiting for the massive Battle of Winterfell against the White Walkers. And just days before the much-anticipated third episode airs, new photos—and theories with them—suggest what will happen.
In battle
One image shows Jon looking rather alarmed, with a small wound on his cheek and rather messy hair. It’s clear he’s been involved in battle, but his shocked stare could indicate the worst is just about to happen. He looks pretty concerned. Exactly what or who he is looking at, though, we cannot tell.
Far away
Another picture depicts Jon and Daenerys together, looking towards Winterfell from a distance. What are they doing so far away? This photo appears to take place before the battle, seeing how clean the characters appear. Of course, it could be a picture from after the battle… What do you think?
Sansa
By far, the most interesting pictures are those of Sansa. One of them shows her talking with Arya upon the walls of Winterfell. Her uneasy expression makes us wonder what got her so seemingly scared…
In contrast, the second picture puts Sansa in what appears to be Winterfell’s crypts—a dangerous place to be if the White Walkers are near, since the Starks bury their dead, instead of burning them. They are basically zombies waiting to be revived. If indeed the “safest place” in Winterfell turns out to be a death trap, well… Sansa and many others are in legitimate danger.
One more thing about this particular photo. If you look closely, you can see a mysterious, hidden face behind Sansa. Now, that could be any random person that just happened to be standing there when the picture was shot, but it’s fun to speculate at any rate. This is Game of Thrones, so there’s always more than meets the eye. Some think it’s just Jon or Arya standing in a corner. Others fear an assassin is waiting in ambush. Who knows!
Tyrion and Varys
When two of the smartest people in the show have expressions of fear and concern, it’s safe to say we should all panic. Of course, the battle itself is reason enough, but what exactly are they worried about here?
Brienne and Jamie
Finally, we can see Brienne and Jamie in the battlefield, standing at the ready in front of their army. The troops seem to be headed by the men of House Arryn, as you can probably tell by their shields. Now, as we saw during the second episode, the characters already expected the worst. Yet here all of them seem to be utterly shocked by something. Are things worse than we all thought, perhaps? Is this the end for Jamie and Brienne?
We hope you’re prepared for one of the most epic battles in the history of television. See you on the other side, if we make it.
