Dracarys! Game of thrones will have new spin-offs and here we tell you everything that is known

If you thought that Game of Thrones had come to an end forever, let us tell you that there is still a long way to go… It turns out that three new projects are coming from this universe and they are not rumors or assumptions, it was the creator George R.R. himself. Martin confirmed it.

What Will the Game of Thrones Spin-Offs Be About?

The renowned writer advanced some details of these spin-offs on his Not a Blog portal. He spoke about the future of A Song of Ice and Fire, the novel on which the praised House of the Dragon series is based.

“It just so happens that HBO and I have our animated projects, set in the world of ‘A Song of Ice and Fire.’ None of them have gotten the green light yet, but I think we’re close to taking the next step with a couple of them,” he said.

He said that although he is working hand in hand with this streaming platform, none of the projects have been confirmed, since, as he highlighted, four series were planned, of which two have already been cancelled.

“When this latest round of development began a few years ago, we had four ideas for animated series, with great talent attached to them. Over time, writers’ rooms, meetings, sketches, and scripts followed… But, unfortunately, two of the original projects were shelved,” he noted.

He highlighted that despite the inconveniences, two are still standing and that is not all, since a third is added: 9 trips.

Game of Thrones Spin-off Will Be Animated

George R.R. Martin also announced that these three projects will no longer be live-action, they will move to the animation format (Guillermo del Toro likes this).

“Work on the other two animated projects continues apace… And in the meantime, we’ve shifted Nine Voyage, our series about the legendary voyages of The Sea Serpent (Lord Corlys Velaryon), from the action in “I live for animation,” he said.

“There is a whole world out there. And we have many more possibilities to show everything with animation. So now we have three animated projects going on,” he added.

The series, which will now be animated, is based on the book of the same name and will focus on the story of Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) who makes a journey to Sea Sneak.

Why Will It Be Animation?

The screenwriter confessed that the main reason why he opted for animation was because of budgetary limitations since it would surely be very expensive.

“Budget constraints would likely have made a live-action version prohibitively expensive, with half the show taking place at sea and the need to create a different port each week, from Driftmark to Lys, the Basilisk Islands, Volantis, Qarth and… well, many more,” he highlighted.

Of course, although some fans may not be so excited about this little detail, the writer said that since it is animated, it has much more creative freedom.

“There is a whole world out there. And we have many more possibilities to show everything with animation. So now we have three animated projects going on,” he explained.
