It wasn’t a lie when they said Guillermo del Toro was set to direct a Star Wars movie. The filmmaker confirmed the rumors through his social networks but did not give further details on why it was no longer made.
Rumors that the Mexican wonder would be part of this franchise created by George Lucas arose after writer David S. Goyer (Batman vs. Super: Dawn of Justice and The Dark Knight) shared that he had been working on a script that was set 25 thousand years before the events of the first Star Wars film.
On that occasion, the screenwriter pointed out that Guillermo del Toro was considered for this project, which excited fans of the saga and, of course, of the Mexican filmmaker. “It was about four years ago. I also wrote a script for the story of the origins of the Jedi… which took place 25,000 years before the first Star Wars film,” he said.
Until that moment, everything remained in words, until now, the creator of Pan’s Labyrinth clarified everything, although he stressed that he could not say much about it.
Which Star Wars Movie Was Guillermo del Toro Going to Direct?
Although he left us in suspense, Memito (as Mexicans like to call him) left some clues that could help us know which project it is and that his fans are already trying to decipher, will they succeed? “It’s true, I can’t say much. I can’t say much, maybe two letters ‘J’ and ‘BB’ are three letters? By the way, this was MANY, MANY moons ago… about 6 years or so…”, wrote Guillermo del Toro on X, formerly Twitter.
Recall that some time ago, the Pinocchio director said he wanted to make a Godfather-style movie about the rise of Jabba the Hutt: “That’s the character. That’s what’s most like me, and… I love the idea of a Hutt-type mob.”

While this is happening, most of the award-winning filmmaker’s followers are asking for this project to be retaken, since Star Wars would undoubtedly be something “epic” if it carried his essence and originality.
“I can’t believe it, Star Wars would be even better with Guillermo del Toro’s seal,” “Guillermo del Toro excels in everything he does, I don’t doubt he will do the same with this franchise,” “Oh no, we need Guillermo del Toro to retake this project, please,” “This would truly be cinema,” can be read among the comments.
