It’s no secret that the movie has become a great platform for the Latinx community with a diverse cast in most of its editions, and even more appealing soundtracks for the community. Well, Fast & Furious 9 won’t be the exception, and this time, a beloved representative of Latinx music will be joining the cast as Vin Diesel just confirmed yesterday. That’s right, Puerto Rican reggaeton sensation Ozuna will be in the next film of the franchise, debuting in Hollywood not only as an actor, but apparently, he’s also in talks to work on the film’s soundtrack.
Ozuna, who’s rocketed to the top of the charts in the past few years and has already won five Billboard Music Awards and 12 Latin Billboard Awards, would seem like a nice addition to the franchise, since he is one of the most followed Latinx artists today. Not only is his music praised by the critics, but he’s also one of the most active and viewed artists in the world, with a YouTube channel with over 25 million subscribers and his videos charting above 1 billion views. He’s definitely a great asset to bring viewers to the movie theaters.
However, this won’t be Ozuna’s debut as an actor. He starred in the film Qué León, a rom-com from the Dominican Republic that was released last year and whose sequel is already in pre-production. Besides that, Ozuna seems to be taking his role as an actor quite seriously, since he’s already chosen the UTA agency to represent him in this new professional path.
Fast & Furious 9 will be directed by Justin Lin (who also directed the sixth installment) and will be featuring a new cast and some returning favorites, like Charlize Theron, John Cena, Michelle Rodriguez, and of course the one and only Vin Diesel. The movie’s release date is scheduled for May 22, 2020.
