When the new series of ‘Sex & the City’ was announced everyone was super excited to see their favorite fashionistas on screen, but this time, it was going to be different. The chapter of the lives of Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte would have to be without the famous Samantha Jones.
The new show, which premiered this November 9 on HBO, shows the lives of the famous women of New York and some new characters, but how did they solve the Samantha issue? Let’s take a look.
Why Samantha is no longer on the show?
The main reason behind no more Samantha lines in the new show is because Kim Catrall, the actress behind the liberal pr in the series, did not accept to work on it.
According to various reports, her relationship with Sarah Jessica Parker (who is a producer of the show) was far distant from what we saw on screen.
The relationship was so not there that when Catrall’s brother died in 2018, the actress posted a message on Instagram to tell Parker that she “didn’t need her love or support in such difficult times”.

It is said that the feud between the two started when Parker noticed that Catrall’s character got more attention and popularity at some times than Carrie herself. However, neither of the actresses have publicly addressed their differences.
So, what happens to Samantha in the new show
There were rumors that maybe writers would opt to end the character and script her dead, however, they came with a better solution. Let her be there, but not present at all. Let me explain. Spoiler alert!
Writers decided to make Samantha still part of her friends’ lives in a way.
Within minutes of the opening scene, we learn that Samantha has moved to London and no longer speaks to any of the girls.
Carrie wanted to end her professional relationship with her, who was her book publicist; as a result, Samantha is no longer responding to her texts or calls. And no longer speaks to Charlotte and Miranda.
