It’s likely you use your weekends to watch commercial movies that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat; indie films overwhelm you, or maybe you just want to watch something different besides TV series, but in the end, you don’t really know what you want to watch. While you’re scrolling down the many lists of genres, suddenly you find a peculiar movie. From watching the first minutes you think “what the…?!” you find yourself grinning, and perhaps you’re covering your face out of surprise. The next minute you feel disturbed and don’t understand a thing. You know that if you weren’t alone you would ask if this is all a joke while laughing at the same time. Been there? Welcome to trash cinema.For those who don’t have a clue of what this film genre is, I’ll explain it in a very easy way –although it would be best to actually watch one of these films: “Trash cinema” comes from the sixties, seventies, and eighties. They’re low-cost films that were distributed and exhibited in marginal places and were restricted from the video market of their time.
These films were made bearing in mind they would be criticized. This is the main appeal: it was a fun and obscene way to show all the trending topics no one dared to show. Most of these films deal with horror and erotic themes, inefficient superheroes, mutants, and infinite elaborated subjects. However, trash cinema has a wide number of followers .
