Season 4 of Netflix’s hit series The Crown is about to make its second and last major cast switch as history reaches today’s Royal Family reality. Season 4 introduced us to a young and naive Princess Diana and the tormented relationship she had with Prince Charles from the beginning. In this new upcoming period of the series, we’ll see an already elderly Queen Elizabeth played by the one and only Imelda Staunton, and Prince Philip played by Academy Award nominee and Game of Thrones alumn Jonathan Pryce.
Now, although producers of the series had said they won’t be dealing with the current controversies involving the Royal Family, like Prince Andrew’s accusations or Prince Harry’s split from the institution, it seems that at least we’re going to have a glimpse of the modern royals, as it’s been reported that they’re looking for the perfect actress to portray the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.

The Crown creator, Peter Morgan, had declared some months before that the series would end at season 5, which will deal with the Royal Family navigating the convulsed 90s. However, he retracted himself and later on claimed they will end as planned with the sixth season and those events that the family went through during the 2000s. For that reason, it can be assumed that we will see a bit of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s courting at the University of St. Andrews in Scottland, as well as Prince Harry’s wild party-boy years.
According to the media outlet The Daily Star, the series will only carry out with the appearance of the Duchess of Cambridge if they cast the right person for the role. Also, there’s already a current call for actors to play Princes Harry and William; the range of ages is between 16 and 21, and according to the description, what the casting team is looking for is a “strong physical resemblance” regardless of their acting experience. This suggests that the roles of the young monarchs will be short.

This final season will likely show us the sad deaths of Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother, the Crown’s attempt to fix Prince Charles’ public image as well as his public relationship with Camilla and their eventual wedding.
The final season is planned to start filming in August but the fifth season will be released on Netflix this November!
