The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that Will Smith will be banned from attending the ceremony for the next 10 years, after the altercation he had with Chris Rock last 94th Oscars ceremony.

Above banning him from the Oscars ceremony, the Academy has decided that he will not be able to attend any of the events it organizes.

The decision was made during a gathering of the Academy’s members after it announced it was launching an inquiry to fully understand what really happened.

In a statement, the organization said that after the slap, it did not “adequately address the situation in the room” and had been “unprepared for the unprecedented”.

The Academy also thanked Rock for “maintaining his composure under extraordinary circumstances”, according to the BBC.

Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith’s hairstyle, which is a consequence of alopecia, a disease she’s been open about.

After the altercation, Smith went on to the stage to receive his Oscar for Best Actor for “King Richard” and said that he reacted the way he did because he was protecting his family.

A day after, Smith released a statement saying that his behavior was unacceptable and issued an apology to Chris Rock. He later resigned from his Academy membership.

Now, reports claim that he is afraid he will get canceled after many projects he already had with Netflix and Sony had been pulled off.
