Whoopi Goldberg Launches the First Global Women’s Sports Network

It’s official: Whoopi Goldberg is bringing something groundbreaking to the world of sports. The All Women’s Sports Network (AWSN) is set to be the first 24/7 global sports channel dedicated entirely to women’s sports, and it’s coming just when the world needs it most.

If you’re into sports, you probably know about the huge gender gap that exists in terms of broadcasting and even salaries. Women’s sports are often sidelined, leaving female athletes without the visibility they deserve. But AWSN is set to change that. And if you’re not a big sports fan, this might be the perfect reason to tune in and get excited.

AWSN will be available in 65 countries and aims to be a go-to source for women’s sports worldwide. The network will cover a variety of events, from UEFA Women’s Nations League games and WTA Tour matches to the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series. For now, AWSN is available on platforms like Etisalat’s eLife in the Middle East, India’s JioTV, and the Philippines’ Jungo Pinoy.

During an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Whoopi Goldberg shared how she’s wanted to create this channel for the past 16 years.

“Ever since I was a little kid, I always wanted to play sports,” she said. “My brother could play everything. But whenever I wanted to play, I’d get, ‘Oh, hi little girl.’ That always pissed me off.” Now, Whoopi Goldberg’s frustration has transformed into a vision to elevate female athletes, saying, “Wouldn’t it be great if we could go around the world, start getting young athletes in high school so that we can grow with them and grow up with them?”

What You Can Expect from AWSN

The network promises to showcase the best of women’s sports across multiple platforms, putting female athletes in the spotlight. Viewers can look forward to:

AWSN joins other ventures dedicated to women’s sports broadcasting, including the Women’s Sports Network, founded by former ESPN executive Carol Stiff, and Europe-based W-Sport, backed by Setanta Sports founder Mickey O’Rourke.

Goldberg’s channel is more than just another sports network—it’s a bold move to close the gap in sports broadcasting. “Athletics, when done brilliantly, doesn’t matter who’s doing it,” Whoopi Goldberg said, summing up the mission of AWSN. “We don’t really have that relationship to women’s sports.”

AWSN promises to be a major platform for women’s sports, giving female athletes a global stage to showcase their talent and dedication. And for sports fans, it’s a long-awaited opportunity to see women’s sports front and center, 24/7.

Thank you, Whoopi, for championing this much-needed platform for women in sports!
