The WHO’s statements refer to a lack of oxygen, since wearing a mask can make it difficult to breathe freely. However, Grayson Wickham, a physiotherapist and strength training expert, says that there is no risk in wearing a mask while exercising:

“Most people can perform every and all exercises with a face mask on. You [should] watch out for specific symptoms such as lightheadedness, numbness or tingling and shortness of breath.”

It was recently reported that wearing two face masks is more effective in preventing further spread. If you’re already comfortable exercising while wearing one, it shouldn’t be a problem to wear a second one. However, to go from zero masks to two may lead some people to feel uncomfortable, or even dizzy and short of breath.

But if you’d rather not wear a face mask at all as you exercise, it would be best to stay home and do some home routines. If you’re one of those people who prefer going to the gym, follow all their health guidelines and remember that you can work out  just fine while wearing a mask.
