There’s no worse feeling than waking up in the morning, looking in the bathroom mirror before getting in the shower, and then, BAM, there’s a pimple on your cheek the size of your nose. My advice here would be to visit a dermatologist. But, if you’re like me, and you only get one or two pimples every once in a while (especially when you go crazy with junk food), these tips are for you. Zit time is the right time

How do you know when’s the right time to pop a pimple? Well, when it’s become a zit. Zits are those pimples that have become inflamed, red, and with a white-yellowish tip. This means that the pore is infected, and it requires some pressure to be liberated. And yeah, if it hurts and itches, then it may be the right time to pop it.

Pimples’ worst enemy: shower time

When you’re in the shower, it’s the best time to pop a pimple, since the warm water smoothes and dilates your skin. Also, the steam helps cleanse out everything that may have been stuck in your pores. It is also the right time to get rid of blackheads.

Hygiene is key

Okay, so this is the most important part about popping pimples. Your face, fingers, and any device that you use to pop the pimple, such as q-tips, must be super, extra clean. Otherwise, you will infect the zit, and then, you might actually need to go see a doctor. 

No Pressure

When popping a pimple, apply pressure with your fingertips on the sides of the pimple, never directly, and gently squeeze your skin. Squeeze gently but steadily at least 1 cm away from the pimple. Aftercare

Once you have popped the pimple, wash any residue off with water or clean it up with a cotton pad. You can apply either micellar water or some alcohol-free astringent to prevent infection and to close the pore. Apply moisturizer as in your daily routine, but with extra care on the dilated pore where the pimple was, so you don’t infect it. If there’s any inflammation, you can put an ice cube on it for a few minutes. Finally, if there’s any redness on the skin, try to stay away from direct sun exposure.
