How many times have you planned the perfect outfit for an important event to attend or just for a party where you want to look fabulous? Well, in fact, this happens to all of us, or it was until now. You know how social media has taken over, well basically every aspect of our life, and the world of fashion and the music industry is no exception.

For many decades, fashion trends were set on catwalks or even at red carpet events. Now these are just formalities no one really pays attention to. The world today looks after the pieces we find on social media, and in terms of fashion, basically to what it’s exposed on Instagram. In the past years this platform has become a bridge between people and their icons, and in that way, everything they chose to exhibit there is received as an invitation to their personal and intimate life. That’s why these fashion events have become somehow futile. You no longer have to wait months or years to see what your favorite musician or actress will wear. You can see all their outfits every single day. This is the premise under which Marni Senofonte works.

As a stylist of different musicians including, of course, Beyoncé, and now her latest client Kendall Jenner, she’s managed to revolutionize the world of fashion and adapt her ideas into what the public wants. In that way, one of the main premises of her work, which has become a common behavior of celebrities nowadays, is to understand social media as the most important spotlight. As she explains, when she creates an amazing look with one of her clients, it’s uploaded immediately to Instagram instead of waiting for an event to show it later. According to the stylist, they have thousands (if not millions) looking at her work at the same time, while on these events the number is considerably lower.

Her work as a stylist is to make the most of her client’s personal fashion sense, work with it, and innovate following their tastes. In an article Jess Cartner-Morley wrote for The Guardian (based on an interview with Senofonte) she explains how everything about her is guided by esthetics and design, even having breakfast. But one of the things that amazed her the most about Senofonte was that even when her look seems expensive and chic, some of the pieces come from fast fashion stores. So, basically, she doesn’t care at all about brands but about the look and how to mold it to the person to make unique. As she explains, Senofonte is wearing a striped t-shirt with fur on the sleeves. The shirt was really inexpensive, but by playing with the fur and combining it with a statement jacket and a pair of sweatpants, it looks like a runway outfit. The trick is to follow your guts and see beyond labels. It doesn’t really matter where the pieces come from if it’s a fast fashion store, a vintage market pile, or even designer clothes. It’s all about creating looks no one has seen before and make an impact on the audience.

Following that idea, she also explains how clothes aren’t supposed to be worn or remain the same way forever. Refashioning is also a great way to innovate fashion. She explains how she liked some sweatpants and decided to get four of the same to play with the shapes and even turn them into skirts or other pieces. It’s a matter of seeing beyond the finished piece and create other options. If you like the pattern or the waist of the pants, for example, just keep that and work with the remaining fabrics. The idea is to be creative and work with your personal style. Oh, and of course, if the final piece works great, just upload it. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have thousands of followers. Just show off your creativity!
