We anticipated from the beginning of 2023: that the no-pants trend would reign and it seems that even in the cold season it will be tried. The no-pants trend consists, as is, of dressing without pants, shorts, or skirts. In some cases, exposing panties, culottes, thongs, or your preferred underwear.
This is a fashion that has been promoted by catwalks, it girls, influencers, and celebrities, who seek to break the mold and show their most daring and original side. Some of the brands that have opted for this trend are Miu Miu, Vivienne Westwood, and Bottega Veneta. Meanwhile, among the celebrities who have worn this trend are Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber, Chiara Ferragni, and Julia Fox.
It has been documented in specialized media that one of the precursors and early adopters of this trend is Bella Hadid, who since September 2022 was photographed eating pizza and wearing a vintage LEGO t-shirt, white underwear, a leather jacket, and UGG ankle boots.

The origin of the no-pants trend
Nothing in fashion is a coincidence. This trend is related to balletcore, which is inspired by the world of ballet and its garments such as bodysuits, fluid skirts, bullfighters, or ballerinas (aha, that’s why millennial falts are also coming back). If you say that the no-pants trend is a way to express one’s personality and freedom, although it can also be seen as a provocation or a lack of good taste, my conservative aunts would say.

The no-pants trend throughout history
In the last century, this trend has come and gone more times than you might think. During the Jazz Age, in the 1920s, women began wearing shorter skirts, known as “flapper skirts,” which exposed the legs to a degree previously unseen in Western fashion. This trend is considered a symbol of liberation and social change. Then, in the fashion revolution of the 1960s, miniskirts changed history forever; they were designed to be short and show off your legs. Icons like Mary Quant helped popularize this trend. A more recent precedent occurred about five years ago with bikers or cycling shorts, inspired by trends from the early 90s.

How to carry it?
There are several ways to wear the no-pants trend, from combining it with tights, oversized coats, tank tops, or bombers. Your size or body type does not matter, it is rather advisable to adapt it to your style like Taylor Swift did or try it on a special occasion, like a party.
