For two weeks, from February 28th to March 8th, Paris was filled with a sense of glamour, elegance, and edginess thanks to the Paris Fashion Week fall/winter 2022. The French capital was filled with celebrities such as the cast of Euphoria, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, Ursula Corbero, the actress who played Tokyo in Money Heist.
What is the purpose of PFW?
Along with New York City, London, and Milan, Paris is considered one of the five fashion capitals that are in charge of exhibiting the designers’ new collections; reason why it’s divided into three categories: Men’s Fashion, Haute Couture and Prêt-à-Porter.
While the term Haute Couture is protected in France and only very few fashion houses fulfill the strict criteria and can claim to have Haute Couture, the Prêt-à-Porter (ready-to-wear) is what most modern fashion houses exhibit during these weeks
Yves Saint Laurent
Yves Saint Laurent invited many in the “Euphoria” cast, including Jacob Elordi, Maude Apatow and Dominic Fike. Also featured were Demi Moore, Úrsula Corberó, Mark Tuan, Victoria and Romeo Beckham.
Considered one of designer Anthony Vaccarello’s best collections. It all revolved around elegant figures with Art Deco references and even demonstrated the wonders that can be achieved using faux fur.
Dior
Rihanna was the Dior guest who stole the show as she showed up in a black lingerie set that showed off her baby bump, accompanied by her current partner and father-to-be A$AP Rocky. But it wasn’t just the two of them who stole the show, Anya Taylor-Joy and Blackpink’s Jisoo were also there.
Maria Grazia Chiuri managed to balance the humanity that she considers important and the constant technological development that we live in day by day.
A totally experimental fashion show with the Bar Jacket redesigned, which this time included materials and techniques developed by D-AIR Lab in order to control body temperature, illumination tubes in a suit while keeping very artisanal and meticulous tailoring.
Valentino
Among the featured guests who appeared on some Instagram posts; Zendaya, Maluma, and Lewis Hamilton.
For this season, Piccioli chose pink for almost his entire collection. He intended that by using such color, the senses would be more intense and would be able to show us the details of each garment, the neckline, and the surface decoration instead of focusing on the looks, highlighting also the character of each model.
His collection also had its moment of Haute Couture of everyday codes that were adapted for the prêt-à-porter.
Piccioli also mentioned that he considers pink to have many meanings; a long time ago it was the color of men’s power and then becoming feminine. Finally the very particular pink that Piccioli used will be added to Pantone’s official color scale under the name ‘Pink PP’ and although the designer confessed that he never wears pink, he explained that it’s a constant fascination.
Balenciaga
Who also stole many glances was the star of Balenciaga, Kim Kardashian with a tape outfit. She wrapped herself in a yellow tape that instead of saying de classic ‘caution’ was the name of the brand, Balenciaga, the brand’s logo for its fall 2022 show.
Kim’s purse and shoes were also covered by the same tape and as an extra accessory, a pair of glasses. She documented the progress and to be honest it didn’t look comfortable.
Demna Gvasalia, Balenciaga’s creative director, said that Kim Kardashian’s costume, which was also seen on the catwalk, was kind of a revenge because when he was a child he used to roll up ribbons and curtains and was scolded.
For this show, Gvasalia chose to give his own view about the heartbreaking things going on in the world like the war that is tearing down Ukraine, by turning the catwalk into a snowstorm desert.
For many, the most epic and emotional show with a really deep message, where Demna recited a poem in Ukrainian about being strong and about focusing on love.
On every seat there was a T-shirt dyed in the colors of blue and yellow and he explained that he decided to continue the show because he didn’t want to give in to the evil that had already hurt him so much. When Demna was only 10 years old, he and his family left their homeland in Georgia, after local separatists with ties to Russia reclaimed the land.
Originally it was going to be about climate change, but it took a drastic turn and became something different, disposable items were also used here, like a couture coat wrapped in duct tape, ‘less high class’, ‘less bourgeois’, he said.
Chanel
While Jisoo from Blackpink was with Dior, her group mate, Jennie attended with a school girl-inspired look to the luxury French fashion label show, Chanel. The French house had other celebrities in attendance at its Haute Couture such as Margot Robbie, Pharrell Williams, and Sofia Coppola.
Virginie Viard, Chanel’s creative director, dedicated her collection to tweed, one of the brand’s most emblematic fabrics and timeless heritage.
Viard presented boyfriend looks, showing a muscular tweed and blowing the imagination thinking about what Gabrielle Channel would look like strolling through a Scottish field picking flowers and then inspiring the artisans with the color of the flowers to achieve a tweed in her favorite colors.
From Scotland in the 1920s, tweed traveled to London 40 years later in the 1960s, Vrigine said that as she designed, she thought of colorful album covers from that era, and not only the clothes have the tweed treatment, one infallible accessory also got it, the bags.
