So, here we are, sharing with you the sad news that the most famous cat on the internet has died at the age of 7.

Grumpy Cat passed away in her owner’s house in Arizona, after suffering from complications of a urinary tract infection. The owners shared the news on social media and celebrated the joy that Grumpy Cat gave the world, despite her permanently-angry face.

“Besides being our baby and a cherished memory of the family, Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world – even when times were tough. Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere.”

Grumpy Cat became famous in 2012 after a photo of her was uploaded to Reddit. Since then, lots of memes relating the cat to negative situations started to spread all over the internet. Her real name was Tardar Sauce, and her owner, Tabatha Bundsen, was a waitress when the meme blew up. She never imagined how her life would change thanks to the cat, making thousands of dollars after participating as speaker in important technology events, selling merchandise, and even getting a TV movie.

After the news of her death, Grumpy Cat fans on Twitter started sharing memes and illustrations featuring the iconic feline, demonstrating why it was one of the best animal accounts to follow on Instagram, according to Time Magazine.

Well, some days are grumpier than others, and today is a sad day for the internet. Long live, Grumpy Cat (at least in our memes).
