We are basically trying to control our fate, where we’re going, and where we’ll end up after those ten steps.
The future is a sticky issue. Uncontrollable. Absolutely not in our hands. We choose between riding the wave and acting like we actually have the ability to change our fate. An argument starter between pessimists and optimists. The former tells you that whatever happens in your life will happen and you have no control, so what’s the point of faking it. The latter tells you every little effort you make affects your future somehow. You’re told it’s unrealistic to have no idea where you’re going when you declare your pessimistic views with an undertone of a pitiful cry for help. We’re all supposed to be marching towards something, existing for however long it may be.
We’re unknowingly conditioned from a young age to think about the future.
@piecesof_jamie/ Think forward, keep our minds there, and occasionally be conscious of the now, our present existence. Once we reach maturity, we think about where we’ll attend university. About possible courses before we reach that stage. Who we’ll marry, if we even wish to take the leap, and if so, at what stage in our lives. Whether we’ll have a traditional or an unconventional wedding. How many kids we’ll have. And then we start planning for the next generation.

Our lives revolve around the future – a constant orbit around the sun. That’s why we rely on aids to center us, to bring us back to the present when we get lost in the dreary and unfathomable abyss that is the future. We meditate. We tell ourselves to stop making future to-do lists in our minds. And we attempt to sort our thoughts – be here, be in the moment. Experience the sun kissing our skin.
@airtreksExperience every single moment consciously. Take a vacation from thinking about the future just for five minutes, or maybe thirty. But after that practice is over, we find ourselves back at square one.
We can’t shut it off – we can’t drift into space and detach from our gravitational force to the future. We have to remain on our path. Orbiting, orbiting, orbiting.
@spirit.of.universeUntil one day we make sense of why we’re stuck on our path. Maybe then we can find peace in the uncertainty of the future.
