How many times have you heard men complain about their controlling wives or girlfriends? These harpies want to have the last word about everything they do: don’t smoke, don’t drink, don’t go out with your friends, don’t swear in front of the kids, and on and on. Well, turns out, this is actually a good thing for guys: being in an unhappy marriage with a controlling woman might delay the onset of diabetes in men.
If this is true, men should reconsider their complaints about controlling and difficult women in their lives. A study recently conducted by the University of Michigan has found out that men who marry controlling and bad tempered women live longer and in better health.

The study was conducted by a sociologist from the Michigan State University for a period of five years with a group of 1,200 married men. Half of these men were married to “difficult” women and both underwent the same physical tests.
These tests compared the health of the subjects, and none of the researchers saw the results coming.
In those couples where the woman had a bad temper and was controlling, men showed better overall health, mainly because the women served as regulators of bad habits, such as eating junk food, excessive drinking or eating, or lack of physical activity.

Hui Lui, associate professor in the University, said: “This study challenges the traditional assumption that an unhappy marriage is always bad for your health.”
Another finding from this research, published in Journals of Gerontology: Social Sciences, is that, for men, more confrontation and an unhappy relationship helped lower the risk of developing diabetes and increased the chances of controlling and treating this disease (if it was already developed).
This is a result of the control exercised by their wives, since diabetes is a disease that requires close monitoring and constant visits to the doctor.

Before you say anything, we don’t condone violence or aggressions against your partner in any way, all we are saying is that there might be certain advantages of being in a relationship with a bad-tempered, controlling woman. Sometimes when she scolds you for drinking too much beer, she is just trying to show you that she cares. But remember that each relationship is different, and you need to find what’s best for you!
