Welcome to Casa Madrigal, a magical house on the top of the hills full of wonder and extraordinary people with extraordinary gifts… well, except for one person. Always on point, Disney studio’s 60th animated feature film, Encanto, will take us on a journey to Colombia, where we’ll meet the Madrigals, a family as diverse as astounding.
All its members have a unique magical gift except Mirabel, whose family kind of pushes her out because of her lack of a special gift. Mirabel will have to embark on a quest to save the magic that’s been fueling all the members of her family, and on that quest, she’ll be able to find that special gift she’s always longed for.
Mirabel’s story is likely to resonate with many, especially nowadays when social media bombards us with success stories that can make us feel ordinary. Perhaps, as Disney has been famous for, Encanto will show us how to find that special gift inside us.
Directed by Byron Howard and Jared Bush, the movie will feature Stephanie Beatriz (from Into the Heights and Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as the lead voice; we’ll also enjoy the voices of Wilmer Valderrama and Diane Guerrero.
If that wasn’t enough, Encanto will have eight original songs written by none other than the great Lin-Manuel Miranda. He’s been collaborating with Disney since 2014 when he was chosen to write the music for Moana. Since then, we’ve enjoyed his music in films like Mary Poppins Returns and soon The Little Mermaid live action. The songs will be both in Spanish and English celebrating Colombia’s musical tradition.
Encanto will be out in cinemas and Disney+ this November 24. Here’s the first trailer:
