Game of Thrones is headed for its final season, but we wished it went on forever. It’s going to be hard to say our final goodbyes to these characters, but then again, we said goodbye to many, many characters a long time ago when most of them died (#TheNorthRemembers). What we’ll miss the most is keeping up with all of the Game of Thrones houses and how they’re connected to each other, and which contenders for the Iron Throne are still alive. If, by any chance, you aren’t from the North, and you don’t remember, here’s a quick recap.

House Stark
The Starks are our favorites. Haters will say they are too idealistic for their own good, but those who have survived came home Reloaded. Now that we know that R+L=J, everything has changed. Jon is now technically the lord of Winterfell, Warden of the North (after being the Bastard of Winterfell, the White Wolf, Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, King in the North, and kneeling for Daenerys). Now that we know Jon isn’t really House Stark, we’re just waiting for the truth to be revealed. That will leave us with Bran, Sansa, and Arya, so who will be Lord or Lady of Winterfell? Arya isn’t really cut out to be a Lady, and she said so herself, so she’s out (I mean, c’mon). Bran is sort of high all the time. So, my guess is Sansa will take the title she’s been building a character for all this time. Behold, the Wardeness of the North.

House Lannister
We love to hate them, and sometimes we love to love them. At the beginning of the series, House Lannister had no official heirs. Over the course of the series, we found that Jaime and Cersei were totally doing it and that their three kids were actually Lannisters. They died, though.
@tipfilmtv
Now that the Lannister bloodline is nearly extinguished, we’re back to square one with Tywin’s three kids, Jaime, Cersei and Tyrion. Jaime was released from the Kingsguard, so he’s now totally Lord of Casterly Rock. That one was easy.
House Targaryen
Daenerys has been the sole Targaryen in the world ever since her brother was crowned with molten gold and her great uncle died (Aemon didn’t count, since he had renounced his claim by becoming a maester). However, Jon Snow, unbeknownst to himself, is Aegon Targaryen, son of Prince Rhaegar and Lyanna Stark, which means he outranks Daenerys and is therefore the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. Now that these two are totally doing it (and they’re related… weird), what will happen next?

House Baratheon
This is one of our favorite houses as well, so it’s sad to see how they have all died out over the course of the series. Robert was killed by a boar, Renly was killed by fog, and then Stannis died in battle (or did he?). Let’s not forget about Gendry, Robert’s bastard son. He’s still very much alive, and now he’s the last known survivor of House Baratheon. As a bastard, though, he has no claim to the Stormlands, unless a King or Queen recognizes his lineage. Unless, of course, much like Jon Snow, he’s not a bastard at all. Wait, what? I know, right! Cersei once talked about giving birth to a black-haired boy that died shortly after birth. What if this is him?

House Baratheon of King’s Landing
Joffrey, Myrcella, and Tommen are officially House Baratheon of King’s Landing even though we know they’re not really Robert’s kids. They’re all dead, anyway. So, who cares?
House Martell
House Martell has this Middle Eastern-Latino thing going on. You just know they’re good at dancing reggaeton. That being said, while some of Oberyn’s sand snakes (his bastard daughters) are alive, all heirs to Dorne are… well, dead. Yeah.
@itsmicahhaley
House Tyrell
These are all dead. Miss you…
@hbouk
House Frey
They are so dead right now.
@mbulacio
House Bolton
Dead, dead, dead.
@harli_ola_
House Arryn
Yeah, the 10-year-old who sucks on his mom’s breasts is still alive. Yuck.
@kaner73
House Greyjoy
Yara is still alive and is now battling their uncle Euron.

Iron Throne
Cersei Lannister is currently Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, but is facing a rebellion. Daenerys Targaryen is claiming she’s the rightful Queen, and she’s already gained the support of key houses. Jon Snow, aka Aegon Targaryen, now has a claim as well (will he use it?).
So, to recap: season 7 of Game of Thrones saw the extinction of major Westeros houses: Baratheon, Tyrell, Martell, Bolton, Baratheon of King’s Landing are all gone. With that in mind, what is to happen next? Stay tuned for more!
