The creators of Game of Thrones really know how to make fans suffer. Not only will the next season be the very last one, but they’re also taking forever to give it to us, and seriously, the wait just makes us more anxious. Since the very first episode of this highly successful epic, we’ve been guessing who will come out on top at the end of the series after so many betrayals and sad losses (how foolish we were to root for Ned Stark?). This impressive epic story is about to come to an end next year, and the theories about what will happen just keep on coming. Here are five of the many theories about who will sit on the Iron Throne at the end. Is your theory here? Take a look!

But wait! Watch the trailer first!

Daenerys Targaryen will be the future Queen

GoT fans don’t forget, and the premonition young Cersei receives in season 5 won’t fade into oblivion just like that. She’s told that she’ll be Queen, but only for a while, until a younger and more beautiful one overthrows her. Now, many people that the witch is referring to Daenerys, but let’s be honest, it’s Game of Thrones: literally anything can happen. For all we know, that future Queen could be Sansa, or even someone who hasn’t been born yet or hasn’t appeared on the show.

Jon Snow has more right to the Iron Throne than anyone else

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnp5DuSIMhc
Jon Snow has really come a long way since the beginning of the series. He’s gone from being the bastard son of the Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, to being killed and brought back to life, and becoming the actual, rightful heir to the throne through birthright, as the last season revealed. From the beginning, people have been rooting for Jon Snow, but if I can be honest with you, I don’t think it’ll end that way. I don’t know why, I just feel it. I don’t know, maybe the new liaison between aunt and nephew will give us something interesting. After all, wouldn’t they be the representation of Ice and Fire?

Bran Stark will rule them all

Things look promising for the remaining members of the House of Stark, and according to this theory, there’s a chance that young Bran will be the one who ends up winning this Game of Thrones… How? One of the most popular theories right now on the internet is that Bran is actually the Night King. This theory is backed by the fact that Bran can actually go back in time and even interact as himself through others (ehem Hodor). Another piece of evidence they’ve embraced is the fact that he allowed Jon Snow to run away after their first encounter, claiming that he realized he was his half-brother (he’s actually his cousin). To add to the list of very random details that might not have a real connection but that definitely add to the theory, there’s the scene where the Night King’s army is finally crossing the Wall. Seen from above, it seems as if the army’s formation had the shape of the iconic Stark wolf banner. How cool would that be?

Gendry is more than just a bastard

If there’s one thing that Game of Thrones has taught us is that bastard children always have a hidden story. According to this theory, Jon Snow isn’t the only bastard with royal blood: there’s also Gendry. The evidence that supports this theory goes back to season one, right after Jamie pushes young Bran out the window. Cersei approaches Catelyn Stark and tells her that she lost her first-born child, a “black-haired beauty,” the very next scene is the one that introduces us to Gendry. Later on, Gendry tells Arya that the only thing he remembers of his mother is that she had “yellow hair.” I know this isn’t much, but remember all the fuss about the dragon-shaped blood when Jon Snow was murdered, and how people were so sure this meant he was a Targaryen? It turned out to be true, didn’t it? If that’s the case, Gendry would also have a claim to the Throne.

Tyrion isn’t only the King of Sass: he might also be the rightful King of the Seven Kingdoms

Last but not least, my favorite theory is the one that claims that Tyrion might not be a Lannister after all, but actually another lost Targaryen. So far, we know that he was the youngest son of Joanna Lannister, who died in childbirth. This sparked the hatred of his alleged father Tywin and his sister Cersei, but there might be another explanation for this horrible hatred. On many occasions, we saw Tywin saying unspeakable things to Tyrion, but one of the things he didn’t care telling him was that he was no son of him. Besides that, in the books, it’s explained how the Mad King, Aerys Targaryen, had a thing for Joanna, so probably had sex with her, and Tyrion is the result of that. Finally, the last piece of evidence that supports this theory is the fact that Daenerys’ dragons accept Tyrion, just like they did Jon Snow. If all of this is true, wouldn’t it be so cool if the three remaining Targaryens were unwittingly working together?

To be honest with you, though I support the last theory, something tells me that it’s going to be the Night King, whether that’s Bran or not. Who knows? Only time will tell. There are so many more theories that fans have developed throughout this very long GoT dry spell, and it’s possible that many more will come in the remaining months we have ahead, but these are the ones that make a little more sense to me. How about you? Who are you rooting for to sit on the Iron Throne?
