What Varys Heard In The Flames And Other Unanswered Questions In ‘GoT’

Game Of Thrones is coming to an end, but some of the story lines it opened have never been closed. I would hate for it to end it that way, which is why I listed all the questions that remain unanswered. Some answers might have been hinted at, but I’m not happy. I’m very much

What Varys Heard In The Flames And Other Unanswered Questions In 'GoT'

I would hate for it to end it that way, which is why I listed all the questions that remain unanswered. Some answers might have been hinted at, but I’m not happy. I’m very much going to need someone to give me a reasonable explanation for each of these, otherwise it just seems sloppy. Specially after season 8, in which virtually no big revelations have been given to the fans, here are the most important questions in need of an answer:

Is the Night’s Watch still on?

Now that the White Walkers have been defeated and the Free Folk are no longer enemies (and there’s also no Wall), is this organization still alive? What will the sworn brothers do? Where will they find work?

What’s with Bran’s time travel?

Bran can time travel and alter the past. Why hasn’t he used it in other occasions? Is he afraid to use it?

What’s the deal with the astrolabe at the Citadel?

When Sam reaches the Citadel we finally get to know what we’ve been looking at for all of these seasons at the opening of each episode. It’s an Astrolabe with major events of Westeros. But is there some sort of bigger role? Is it just a random easter egg? That seems… underwhelming.

Is Daenerys really barren?

Daenerys has been cursed by a witch, preventing her from bearing any children, and though it would have been perfect (maybe too perfect) for her to get pregnant with Jon’s baby, it doesn’t seem very likely anymore. And it doesn’t seem like they will even answer this. Perhaps she really cannot have any children, but then, why did they insist on this so much? It’s like, ok, we get, you’ll be childless forever. God. Will you at least make a bigger point of this?

Who’s the Prince of Dorne?

As far as we know, the Martell house is extinct. If this is so, then, depending on whatever it was that happened in between seasons, Dorne could no longer even be a principality. Therefore, who is this unknown Prince of Dorne? Will he appear in the books?

What does the White Walkers symbol mean?

We’ve been seeing these weird spirals made from amputated limbs, or variations of it, from the first episode. It’s clearly related to the Children of the Forest, who also used to make these symbols, but are they jut random Celtic-inspired symbols? Are these symbols related to the sigil of House Targaryen. Is this another easter egg or does it have some sort of secret meaning?

What was Varys’ mission in the story?

Varys seemed like those characters who still had a role to play. Yet before you could say eunuch, he was being burned alive by Daenerys without having done very much this season. It’s strange because the show had set him up for more. Even the Red priestess had told him that: “terrible things happen for a reason. Take what happened to you, Lord Varys, when you were a child. If not for your mutilation at the hand of a second-rate sorcerer, you wouldn’t be here helping the Lord’s chosen bring his light into the world. Knowledge has made you powerful, but there’s still so much you don’t know.” He seems to have died for nothing, but is he hiding something?

What did Varys see or hear in the flames when he was being castrated by the sorcerer?

The same priestess continues: “Do you remember what you heard that night when the sorcerer tossed your parts in the fire? You heard a voice call out from the flames, do you remember? Should I tell you what the voice said? Should I tell you the name of the one who spoke?” What did Varys hear? I guess we’ll never know. On that same note…

What was R’hllor?

R’hllor is Melisandre’s Lord of Light, the same one who is supposed to be reborn and from which the prophecy of “The Prince That Was Promised” derived. As Ser Davos complains, this God simply vanished after the battle against the White Walkers? Where did he go? Is he the same as all the Old Gods?

Who is Azor Ahai and The Prince That Was Promised?

Jon didn’t kill the Night King. Daenerys isn’t the Prince that was promised. Cersei wasn’t killed by her little brother. Do prophecies even mean anything anymore?

Who hired the killer to assassinate Bran Stark?

With Bran lying defenseless on his bed, a hired killer attempts to stab him with a Valyrian steel dagger. This weapon sparks a war between the Starks and the Lannisters when Littlefinger claims it belongs to Tyrion (it actually belongs to Littlefinger). We now know that the Lannisters did not send the killer. Was the assassin sent by Littlefinger? How would he have known about Bran, anyway? How did Littlefinger get a Valyrian steel dagger in the first place? Did it belong to Robert Baratheon? If so, then who the hell sent the killer?
