Guillermo del Toro‘s Frankenstein is happening! The three times Oscar-winning filmmaker doesn’t stop, even though a few days ago he won another Oscar award for his version of Pinocchio, and he already has another live-action project in the pipeline for Netflix inspired by a novel by Kazuo Ishiguro. Now he will also fulfill a personal dream by bringing back to the screen one of the most beloved monsters of cinema and literature: Frankenstein, through a live-action film that possibly already has a cast, as we will tell you below.

It’s a Fact: Guillermo del Toro Will Bring Back Frankenstein

Among the Mexican director’s upcoming new projects will be this horror film, which will be directed and written by himself, and which will be produced by his apparent new production house: Netflix, streaming with which he has worked since the 2016 series Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia. The production is in its early stages, so there is no definitive information yet. In fact, according to Deadline, Del Toro is still working on the script, so no formal offers have been made to any actors to star in the film.

However, there have been recent reports that the feature film is already considering a group of stars to be part of the production, and that the first negotiations have already been made to make this happen. It is known that the director of major productions such as Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shape of Water has wanted to bring back the iconic Frankenstein for some time now, through a film centered mainly on Mary Shelly’s novel of the same name. It is not known so far if the production will be a linear adaptation of the story or if it will have some changes, such as its version of Pinocchio, which was set during the Fascism era in Italy, when the original novel takes place many years earlier.

Is There Already a Possible Cast for Del Toro’s Frankenstein?

Three actors are already in initial talks to be part of the cast of this new Del Toro production, although they have not yet signed definitive contracts, so their participation may not happen. They are Andrew Garfield, Oscar Isaac, and Mia Goth, who will apparently have leading roles in the feature film, although it is not yet known exactly which characters they will play. Both Garfield and Isaac could play Dr. Victor Frankenstein and his creature, or one of them could even play Igor, the scientist’s assistant, while it is thought that Goth could be the doctor’s love interest or even the creature. There is also no release date for the feature film, although taking into account the progress of the project, it could be expected by the end of 2025 or early 2026.
