Is there anything Pedro Pascal doesn’t do well? We’ve got a trailer for Strange Way of Life, and we’re so excited to see this short film. Strange Way of Life is produced by director Pedro Almodovar, one of the most important exponents of Spanish cinema, and will be released later this year. The short film brings together two big Hollywood stars, Ethan Hawke and the beloved Pedro Pascal.

Strange Way of Life, the Short Film that Promises to Be the Renewal of Brokeback Mountain

Pedro Almodóvar will arrive at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival to present his new short film Strange Way of Life, starring Pedro Pascal and Etha Hawke. Through the official Cannes website, the director himself talked about what to expect from his new production, which tells the story of love between a gay couple.

“A man rides a horse across the desert that separates him from Bitter Creek. He goes to visit Sheriff Jake. Twenty-five years ago, the sheriff and Silva, the rancher who rides out to find him, worked together as hired guns. Silva visits him with the excuse of reuniting with his friend from his youth, and they do celebrate their meeting, but the next morning Sheriff Jake tells him that the reason for his trip is not to reminisce about their old friendship…,” the director described.

Pedro Almodóvar explained that the title of his production alludes to a melancholic Portuguese song by Amalia Rodriguez, in which the lyrics suggest that there is no stranger existence than one lived by turning your back on your desires.

Pedro Pascal and Ethan Hawke Are the Stars

We know that whatever project Pedro Pascal and/or Ethan Hawke are, quality is guaranteed. Apparently, both actors will be stepping out of their comfort zone within acting to play a queer western, two men who love each other but behave as if they don’t.

Strange Way of Life will probably be the renewal of Brokeback Mountain and, in turn, an opportunity for Almodovar to freely shape this love story. Because, in case you didn’t know, the Spanish filmmaker was invited to direct the film starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger, but declined the offer due to the fear of not having the creative freedom he wanted.

Strange Way of Life is Almodovar’s second English-language project after his 2020 short film The Human Voice starring Tilda Swinton. We’ll still have to wait a few more months to see Pedro Pascal as a gunslinger, but we’re sure it will be a great role.
