On May 7th, 2023, it will be a unique day in the life of King Charles… and all of Great Britain. Just over eight months after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, this will be the big day when Charles is officially proclaimed as king, alongside Queen Consort Camilla and his children (although it has already been confirmed that his daughter-in-law, Meghan Markle, will not be present).
And what would a coronation be without a whole parade of artists performing to celebrate the occasion. Interestingly, the list of confirmed performers is much smaller than the list of artists who declined to perform on King Charles’ big day. Among those who declined to perform are Harry Styles, Elton John, Ed Sheeran, Adele, and Spice Girls.
Now we know that among those confirmed for that day are Katy Perry, Andrea Bocelli, and Lionel Richie, among others who have agreed to perform on May 7th in the grounds of Windsor Castle.
Some Confirmed Artists to Perform at King Charles’ Coronation
The day of the coronation is also expected to be a day filled with music. Among the confirmed performers are the British pop group Take That (without Robbie Williams, who also declined the invitation due to scheduling problems), the great Lionel Richie, and opera star Andrea Bocelli.
As part of the event, Welsh bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel, singer Freya Ridings, and composer Alexis French will also be present.
Katy Perry at King Charles’ Coronation
This will be one of the biggest and most important performances in Katy Perry’s life, along with her historic halftime show at the 2015 Super Bowl. What is Katy Perry doing at such an important event for the royal family?
Well, Katy Perry has been an ambassador for The British Asian Trust since 2020, a charitable organization founded by Charles when he was still the Prince of Wales. As BBC notes, this was “due to her long-standing commitment to charities around the world, including as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, and her own Firework Foundation, whose mission is to empower children from underserved communities by igniting their inner light through the arts.”
“I am excited to be performing at the Coronation Concert,” said Katy. “And helping to shine a further light on the British Asian Trust’s Children’s Protection Fund, whose work includes on-ground initiatives to fundraising, with the aim to find solutions to child trafficking.”
King Charles’ coronation will take place on May 7th 2023 at Westminster Abbey.
