From an early age, he was a lonely and faint-hearted boy who was passionate about music, films, and books. His mother was a librarian who nurtured his love for the written word, and his father was a hospital janitor. His favorite writers were Oscar Wilde and John Keats.
Being an avid reader wasn’t enough, he also became a writer who published works on James Dean, and his favorite band, The New York Dolls. He was such a keen follower of this glam rock group, he was even president of the UK fan club. As a connaisseur of music, he wrote letters to Melody Maker, a British weekly pop/rock music newspaper, one of the world’s earliest music weeklies
In the past decades, Steven Patrick Morrissey has become an icon of the British music scene. Born in 1959, he is the symbol of melancholy, and lyrical poetry. In the 80s, next to the guitarist Johnny Marr, he became the leader of the legendary and nostalgic band: The Smiths.
Prior to being the leader of The Smiths, Morrissey was briefly the vocalist of other punk bands like Slaughter & The Dogs and Nosebleeds. Unable to find the success he wanted, he quickly left them.
Skipping past the old story of rivalry between Morrissey and Marr, Moz began his career as as solo artist. Even though his achievements are not comparable to the ones he obtained in his golden years, he has given us many songs and quotes that will forever be engraved in our hearts and souls.
Some of our favorite Morrisey quotes are:
“Last night I dreamt that somebody loved me. No hope, no harm; just another false alarm.”
