The August celestial vault closes with a long-awaited event, the Blue Supermoon of 2023. For astronomy lovers, the big blue moon will be visible on the night of August 30 and the early morning of August 31.
This phenomenon that occurs when the Moon is in its full phase and is at its closest point to the Earth and makes the Moon appear brighter and larger, is called SuperMoon, but this time it is the blue SuperMoon, which has the same characteristics, only that the expression blue refers to the second full Moon that occurs in the same month.
And like every astronomical event, it also has rituals that people consider important.

Blue Supermoon to Recharge, Reflect, and Acknowledge
As every month, the Moon passes through the closest point to the Earth (perigee) and the farthest point from the Earth (apogee), but when the Moon is at or near its closest point to the Earth and at the same time, it is a full Moon; the phenomenon is called “supermoon.” As explained, the so-called blue one will take place this August 30; however, being an important phenomenon, since the time between blue supermoons varies (it can be from 10 to 20 years), the next blue supermoons will occur in pairs, in January and March 2037.
For this reason, in many spiritual traditions, the full Moon is seen as a moment of culmination, liberation and fulfillment and during a Supermoon, this energy is magnified even more due to its proximity to the Earth, which is why this event can be considered as a propitious moment to set intentions, release what no longer serves you and open up to new possibilities.
Although this is not new, performing rituals based on the Moon’s energy goes way back. Harnessing the power of the Moon has been a tradition in all cultures for millennia, beginning in places like Egypt and Babylon. Although some point out that the blue moon also signifies a time to avoid spiritual betrayals and the return of the blue fairy.

Appearance of the Blue Fairy
There is a belief that during this Blue Supermoon, the Blue Fairy descends to grant two wishes. So here we will share with you three powerful rituals:
- On August 30, you should wear a sky-blue garment to attract a greater number of blessings.
- Did you know that the appearance of the Blue Fairy in your life is an excellent time to manifest happiness and love? Take advantage of this occasion to find ways to increase these virtues in your present. To invoke her under the light of the Moon, light a blue candle and ask her for two wishes, making sure they come from deep within your soul.
- Decree and reaffirm that you can achieve all your dreams.

A Theory of “Betrayal”
The origin of the rituals is due to the meaning of the very name of the August Moon. No one would think that the color blue, in its English form, blue, was named after this unique full Moon. But there is a version that says it was.
The Blue Moon is actually a nice play on words that comes from Old English, from the expression belewe, meaning “traitor.” This term was synthesized in blwe, and due to its pronunciation, in blue. Thus, this moon was pointed out as a “traitor moon,” because it made the Lenten fast to be prolonged.
That is why it is said, that the blue Supermoon is perfect for:
- Meditation under the Moon: You are invited to find a serene outdoor space with a clear view of the Moon, there you should sit comfortably and close your eyes.
- Writing a gratitude journal: During the night of the Blue Supermoon, it is suggested to take a notebook and write down a list of the things for which you experience gratitude; they can be people, experiences, achievements, or memorable moments.
- Charging crystals under the Moon: Crystals and gemstones have energetic properties that can be intensified during the Blue Supermoon, so it is recommended to select crystals that instill confidence and well-being, such as clear quartz, amethyst or lapis lazuli.
- Burning ceremony: Embody on a piece of paper that you wish to release or leave behind in your life, it can be a limiting belief, a harmful habit, or a negative emotion.
