Love is a unique sensation that turns your world upside down. You look at each other for the first time, you ask each other your names, you meet, have a first date, then another, and another, and another, until you both realize that every time you look into each other’s eyes you enter a different dimension where you two are the only ones in the world. You feel great when you’re together, and every time you touch, hear their voice, or you kiss, a series of physiological changes takes place thanks to an increase in your cortisol levels.

Time goes by, everything seems to be fantastic, and then something every couple is afraid of happens; the reason why love ends and many people break up: infidelity.

A large number of scientific studies have shown that vasopressin is the “monogamous chemical,” so that men who lack it tend to stray and look for other women because they are less interested in their partner. As a result, some doctors consider that this substance can end infidelity forever.

American scientists did an experiment with two mice: one was monogamous and the other polygamous. During the research, experts gave shots of vasopressin to the polygamous mouse, and the result was that it became monogamous.

Later, they did the same experiment with humans, and the results were surprising: they found that men with higher levels of this hormone are less unfaithful.

When you feel the need to be with a certain person, that feeling of calmness, security, and union are motivated by oxytocin and vasopressin, the same hormones that are always present along the relationship, not only in couples, but also in filial love. Several studies have confirmed that vasopressin stimulates fatherly behavior, strengthens bonds between couples, and it might also be responsible for monogamy.

It is true that fidelity and the psychological states of human beings can’t depend exclusively on a hormone. However, the key to that balance is that you let your emotions and feelings flow and have an emotional education based on fidelity and love.
