The nominees for the 91st Academy Awards are finally here and the red carpet looks are amazing. With some anticipated nominees leading each category, like Lady Gaga and Rami Malek, this edition of the Oscars came with a few surprises like the nomination of Black Panther for Best Movie.
This year’s Oscars will be different to what we’re used to: a huge pop star has been nominated for Best Actress, a blockbuster movie from the Marvel franchise may take home the statuette for Best Picture, and a movie in foreign language has made history with the most nominations for this year’s awards. Also, the fact that there will be no host this year (after the huge controversy around Kevin Hart and his homophobic declarations) has made many wonder how will the ceremony, in terms of entertainment, will go and how will this change the course of the Hollywood’s most expected night.
Last year, after news of a probable new category for popular films at The Oscars, and after media discussion on what is Oscar-worthy, the Academy seems to finally care for diversity in its nominations. This year may not be as groundbreaking as we may have expected (I mean, it takes baby steps to change 91 years of history), but with a more diverse member’s list, nominees, and with non-traditional movies leading the nominations, we’re definitely aiming for a change.
So, without further ado, here’s the full nominee list for this year’s Oscar Awards:
