What To Wear For A First Date Without Looking Like You're Trying Too Hard

Por: María Isabel Carrasco Cara Chards 21 de septiembre de 2017

We all get a little nervous when we’re going on a first date. It could be the beginning of a new relationship, so you want everything to be perfect. Maybe you're going somewhere nice where you can talk and get to know each other, or maybe you’re more in a party mood, so you’re going dancing. The setting doesn’t really matter: what’s important is to pay attention to the connection with that person. Maybe even score a second date? Well, there are so many factors that will determine whether that second date happens or not. I mean, it’s the first time you’re going to be hanging out romantically, so everything counts in making that first impression. This means that you can't forget about your outfit. What you wear and the way you present yourself is just as important as the place where you take your date. I know that most of the time we want to look like we don't really care about our clothes, so we look cool and the other person doesn't think we're desperate, but even to achieve that cool, casual look you must put some thought into your outfit. So, if you want to learn how to look like a cool guy, keep reading:

Get pants that fit you right

It might sound weird, but, believe it or not, the right fit can make a huge difference in your outfit. The fit of your pants, in particular, can make or break your outfit. The length depends on your personal style and where you're going, but over-the-heel pants are having a moment these days. Another popular trend is pants that look shabby and loose. However, I think the best thing to do is to wear pants that best fit your body type. From there you can start developing your own personal style.

Don’t use clothes as a front

Yes, this is a very important point. Sometimes, when we want to impress someone, we try too hard to look a certain way, only to end up looking like we're wearing a disguise. No matter how good you look, if the outfit you’re wearing doesn't look like you, you’ll probably feel uncomfortable. If you want to make a great first impression on a date, it's important to show who you are, and above all, to be comfortable with who you are.

Be true to your style

This one goes applies to everything. You can always experiment and upgrade your look while staying true to your own personal style. Your style says a lot about yourself. If you want to make a good first impression on someone and actually let them see who you are, it's best to choose an outfit that reflects this.

Keep it clean

Yes, please. No matter what kind of style you have, keep your look clean. And I mean it literally: wear clean shoes and clothes, and if you’re rocking a beard, keep it tidy, the same with your hair. To be honest, I think I can speak for most people in the world when saying that bad personal hygiene is an automatic red flag. Besides that, the condition of your clothes can also give a good or bad impression, so keep that in mind.

Show you care about how you look

Looking like you're not trying too hard doesn’t actually mean you shouldn't care about what you're wearing. In my opinion, it’s kind of nice to see that the person you’re going on a date with has put a bit of effort into their look because they want to make a good impression, so even if you're wearing the most casual outfit ever, it’s good to leave a little hint here and there that shows the other person that you thought about it.

Don’t forget about accessories

This one is optional, but, for me, a guy accessorizing his look shows that he knows about style. Anything can count as an accessory: scarves, beanies, hats, glasses, rings, bracelets, you name it. Accessories are that little extra something that can make your outfit really unique and memorable, and when they’re combined the right way, they can look really, really good.
