There's nothing worse than getting halfway through the day and realizing your makeup is gone, so here's a few tips to keep it looking fresh and perfect all day.
Everyone wants to look put together without the hassle. We are all in the search of the quick and easy morning makeup routine that will last us all day long. But, we all have different skin types, so make up can be a complex subject. As a makeup fanatic, I am constantly testing new brands and products to see what works best for me. All my life I have had combination skin, meaning my t-zone tends to get oily and the rest of my face is dry. Although this may not be your case, I am here to give you general tips on how to make the most out of your makeup with simple steps you can add to your routine.
1. Prep and care for your skin
This is the most important step because it leaves your face fresh like canvas ready to be painted on. No matter your skin type, it is important to have a solid and consistent skin care routine. The smoother the surface, the longer the makeup will last. For this reason, try to exfoliate your skin twice a week to help remove dead skill cells and unwanted dirt.
Many people have different opinions about this. Some believe that if you have oily, acne-prone skin you must dry it out, but that is not healthy. Our skin, no matter the type, needs moisture. Just like our bodies need water, our skin needs to be kept hydrated as well.
3. Prime your face and eyes
Using a primer before applying makeup prevents breakouts because the makeup isn’t going directly into your pores and creates a smoother foundation to place the makeup on. This step is essential because it not only makes your makeup last longer, it makes it look as natural as possible.
4. Layer it!
Building up your makeup lightly will always make it last longer. In addition, it will make your makeup look less cakey and more like a natural glow (and who doesn’t want to be dewy and glowy?)
5. Setting sprays are your best friend
Setting sprays have multiple purposes within your makeup routine. One being, of course, to set your face after you are done to prevent your making up from melting off. Another use to setting sprays if you love an intense, bright eye look is to spray your eye shadow brush before applying the color to your eyelids. Setting sprays and water help intensify eyeshadow pigments.
6. Use waterproof mascara
If you want to go the extra mile, use waterproof mascara. This will surely last the entire day, just make sure you have strong makeup wipes to take it off at night!
7. Set with powder
Always set your makeup with setting powder for more longevity. Loose, thin powders are always best if you are going for a natural look.
8. Last but not least: blot, don’t reapply!
If you have oily skin you will most likely have to fix your makeup at least once a day. Do not reapply! This will just make your makeup look cakey and will cause you to break out. Try blotting sheets which will help absorb the excess oil.
