As a balding man, I understand the struggle of saying goodbye to our once fluffy mane. Many guys understand how terrifying it is to look at yourself and see how, little by little, your hair starts falling off and breaking, until one day you wake up with a larger-looking forehead, or that monk look with the bald patch on the back of your head. However, every once in a while, our self-esteem is restored thanks to bold heroes like John Travolta, who finally took the burden of the wig off of his shoulders, setting himself free, and restoring our faith in humanity.
Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating, but it is true that for a public figure like Travolta, who is an iconic Hollywood celebrity, to finally embrace balding reminds all of us balding men that one day we will look like that, that it’s not the end of the world, and that yes, it can be attractive.
For men, hair loss and beauty standards are a constant struggle. The link between having hair and being deemed beautiful is more evident when it comes to men. We have being taught that baldness is unattractive, and that it is the ultimate representation of aging. Some even say that baldness automatically takes you off the market when you’re single. And though there are new treatments to prevent and fight hair loss, sometimes you just can’t fight genetics. The troublesome part comes when you’re very proud of or attached to your appearance and decide to take things a little bit too far for the sake of your looks.

There’s nothing wrong with trying procedures to be comfortable in your own skin, but there’s also something beautiful in embracing your body as it is. The question here is: how far are you willing to go to keep your hair on your head? Sometimes, enough is enough, and letting go will set you free.
John Travolta has long been teased by the media, which makes fun of how far he will go to hide his baldness with toupees and wigs. But now, he’s posted a picture on his Instagram account where it seems like he finally decided to say goodbye to all that and embrace his natural look.
Sure, it may not be the most epic moment of the year, but it’s a nice reminder that being ourselves is always the best look.
