This model with Down syndrome brought the house down at New York Fashion Week. At only 22 years old, Sofía Jirau, from Puerto Rico,  is making her ultimate dream come true: walking down the runway at New York Fashion Week, one of the biggest fashion events in the world.

For Sofía, who has been modelling for about a year, it’s a big step that will open many doors for her and foster inclusion.

Sofía made it to Fashion Week thanks to designer Marissa Santiago, who made her one of the main models to walk her runway, stating that she saw no difference between Sofía and the other models.

Sofía’s family supports her wholeheartedly, even flying to New York to watch her proudly and support her from the front row, showing how much they love her.

Besides being incredibly beautiful, Sofía is always positive and happy, stealing hearts everywhere she goes and getting contract after contract.

She has already done Fashion Week in her home country and the Dominican Republic. And her motto defines her perfectly:

“There are no limits on the inside or the outside, you can achieve your goals.”

She doesn’t just want to make her own dreams come true, she wants to inspire others, especially girls, to feel beautiful and know that there are no limits, that they too can make their dreams come true.

After her successful run at NYFW, the Puerto Rican model will travel to Spain to keep making her modelling dreams come true and show the whole world that there are no limits to her potential. She says that one day, she looked at herself in the mirror and said “I’m gonna be a model and work in New York,” so she knows that dreams really come true.

We’ll have to keep watching Sofía’s career and see how she achieves all her goals. You can follow her on Instagram
