Everybody is bound to fall in love at least once in their lifetime. Hopefully, we’re all going to meet a person who’ll make our hearts beat faster, but the “happily ever afters” will never happen if we don’t ask them out to begin with. We daydream and we put forth excuse after excuse, “I’m not confident enough,” “they’re too perfect,” and even “they’re too popular.” If we never gather the courage to make the first move, we’ll regret it for the rest of our lives. We can’t afford to call them “the one that got away.” It is for this reason that Scott Pilgrim has become our “Mr. Miyagi” in matters of love and who’ll help us fulfill our dreams.
Scott Pilgrim vs The World is a movie based on Bryan Lee O’Malley’s comics, which tells the story of the adventures of the homonym character. Scott Pilgrim fights against the evil exes of Ramona Flowers, the most eccentric, cool and gorgeous girl in the world. Scott is the opposite of all of her exes: he’s not tall or successful, and he’s insecure. Despite Scott’s qualities, Ramona seems to be falling for him, and she’s willing to give him the chance to fight for her love.
The 2010 movie directed by Edgar Wright is an ode to the comic books and video games. After watching the film, you’ll want to get out there and finally ask that person out. These quotes are perfect for breaking the ice.
“When I’m around you, I kind of feel like I’m on drugs. Not that I do drugs. Unless you do drugs, in which case I do them all the time. All of them.”
“I want to have his adopted babies.”
“Don’t let what’s past ruin your future.”
“You broke the heart that broke mine.”
“You’re too good for him. Run!”
“Knives Chau: I’ve never even kissed a guy before.
Scott: Hey… me neither.”
“Hi, I was thinking about asking you out but then I realized how stupid that would be. So do you wanna go out sometime?”
“I was more alone when we were together than I ever was on my own.”
“I forbid you from hitting on Ramona. Even if you haven’t had a real girlfriend in over a year.”
“Scott — You don’t remember me do you? I met you at the party the other day.
Ramona — Were you the Pac-Man guy?
Scott — No. Not even. That was some total ass. I was the other guy.”
“Scott — So I wrote a song about you.
Ramona — Oh yeah?
Scott — Yeah, it goes like this: Ra-mona,Ra-mona, Ra-ra-ra, Mona, Ra-mona,Ra-mona, Ra-ra-ra, Mona, Ooooh.
Ramona — I can’t wait to hear it when it’s finished.”
“Envy— You just head butted my boyfriend so hard he burst.
Scott — You kicked my heart in the ass. So I guess we’re even. Natalie.”
“Ramona — I really think we should split.
Scott — As in ‘get out of here’? Or as in ‘split split’?”
“This song is called ‘I Am So Sad. I Am So Very Very Sad.’ It goes like this.”
“Scott — She changed her hair.
Wallace — So? It looks nice blue.
Scott — I know, but she changed it without even making a big deal about it. She’s spontaneous. Impulsive. Fickle. Oh my god, what do I do?
Wallace— I can’t believe you were worried about me gaying up the place.”
“Scott — Sorry. I’m not usually like this.
Ramona — Hey, don’t worry. I don’t know what I’m like anymore.”
“Wallace — If you want something bad, you have to fight for it. Step up your game, Scott. Break out the L-word.
Scott — Lesbian?
Wallace — The other L-word.
Scott — …Lesbians?”
“I know you play mysterious and aloof just to avoid getting hurt. And I know you have reasons for not wanting talk about your past. I want you to know that I don’t care about any of that stuff. Because I’m in lesbians with you.”
