The basketball icon Kobe Bryant was in his private helicopter with three more people, including his 13-year-old daughter Gianna.


NBA icon Kobe Bryant died on Sunday morning, according to TMZ. The basketball icon was in his private helicopter with three more people, including his 13-year-old daughter Gianna. The accident happened in Calabasas, California. Kobe and his daughter Gianna were on their way to MAMBA Academy near Thousand Oaks, California, for a basketball practice. 

The entertainment website TMZ reported that some witnesses heard the helicopter's engine sputtering before going down. The cause of the accident is under investigation. 

LA authorities confirmed that none of the passengers of the aircraft survived the crash. 

Bryant is survived by his wife Vanessa, 37, and their daughters Natalia, 17, Bianka, 3, and Capri, 7 months.

Who was Kobe Bryant?

Bryant was 41 years old. He played his entire sports life for Los Angeles Lakers, that's a 20-year career. During that time, he won five NBA championships and became the third all-time in the NBA. He was also part of the US National Basketball Team and won gold medals in 2008 and 2012. 

The NBA star founded the MAMBA Sports Academy in 2018, to offer sports training to youth, amateur and elite athletes. 

His achievements went beyond sports. He won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for his film Dear Basketball in 2018.

Soon after the world knew about Kobe Bryant's death, celebrities, sports people, and politicians posted their condolences to mourn the basketball icon's passing. 

Barack Obama posted a heartful message about what it means to lose a child. 

Gymnast Simone Biles shared a photo of the US Gymnastics team with Kobe Bryant. 

Shaquille o'Neal shared some photos on Instagram of those moments he shared with Kobe when they played with the LA Lakers.
