Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared the news of the birth of their daughter Lilibet 'Lili' Diana Mountbatten-Windsor this Friday. The baby girl was named after her great grandmother Queen Elizabeth and her grandmother Princess Diana.
Harry and Meghan’s second child, and first daughter, was just born last Friday, and the world is thrilled with the name the self-exiled couple chose for her. In an adorable homage to Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana, Harry and Meghan named their daughter Lilibet 'Lili' Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. Does this mean there’s no resentment with the Queen?
Lilibet is Queen Elizabeth’s family nickname, and, although it was already expected the baby girl was going to be named after Diana, many thought she would also be named Philippa after Prince Philip. By the way, Lilibet Diana shares her name with her cousin, William’s daughter, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. Though, unlike Charlotte, baby Lilibet’s name doesn’t honor their grandfather Prince Charles.
A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan shared the news this morning, sharing that both mother and baby girl are healthy and happy. Meghan gave birth at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California, and Lilibet weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces! Both are now back home joining Harry and little Archie.
The Sussex' announced the pregnancy back in February and shared they were expecting a girl during the famous interview with Oprah. They also shared they were thrilled with having a boy and a girl and that they would be settling with a family of four plus two dogs. So it seems Archie and Lili won’t be having another sibling.
Though Meghan and Prince Harry are practically out of the Royal Family, or at least their protocols, the joy of the birth of Lilibet Diana was shared by the Royal Family trough social media. During Prince Philip’s funeral in April, William and Harry had some time to speak and it seemed things got a bit better though the differences between the royal brothers are still big. According to Gary Goldsmith, Kate Middleton’s uncle, the Duchess of Cambridge is doing her best to reconcile Harry and William so they can be the united family they once were.
Let’s hope that the birth of baby Lilibet Diana helps in bringing the family together. So far, it seems the entire family is delighted with the arrival of Queen Elizabeth's 11th great-grandchild!
