A great achievement for the LGBT community that will be available to the public starting 2022.

In what represents a historic decision for the LGBTQ+ community in the United States, the U.S. government has confirmed that it has issued the first passport with an "X" in the gender box to identify non-binary and intersex people. According to the State Department report, the decision aims to guarantee equal rights and, at the same time, ensure that the travel experience is as comfortable as possible for any citizen regardless of their gender identity.
When will the new passport be available?
The confirmation that a passport with an "X" in the gender box has been issued is a historic triumph for the LGBTQ+ community. The U.S. government said that non-binary and intersex people will be able to apply to obtain their passport from the first months of 2022; the above, because the State Department is still adjusting some logistical situations so that it can be available without exception.
"We want to reiterate, on the occasion of the issuance of this passport, the State Department's commitment to promoting freedom, dignity and equality for all people, including the LGBT community," was the message of the U.S. government through an official statement.
For many diplomats in the United States, this passport represents unprecedented victory in the struggle for equality that the LGBTQ+ community has sought for so many years in that country. "It is a decision that is in line with the reality in which we live. When a person obtains documents that reflect their true identity, they live with greater dignity and respect. We see this as a way to reaffirm the human rights of trans, intersex, and non-binary people," said Jessica Stern, U.S. diplomat in charge of LGBT affairs.
