Check out this list for great present ideas from products that also give back to the planet.
It’s that time of the year again! Christmas is about sharing, loving, gifting, and yes, even regifting. While it may be the happiest time of the year, it can also be quite stressful to get the right present for your loved ones. Then, there’s all that wrapping paper that goes straight to the trash. If you feel guilty about so much going to waste, while also struggling with what to give your loved one, here’s a list that combines things that are both awesome and do some good for the planet.
1. A watch made from original grain
These handcrafted watches are exactly what every tough guy needs. They are made out of repurposed wood from American Oak bourbon barrels and other sustainable materials. They are also partnered with Trees for the Future, so each time a watch is sold, Senegal gets a tree planted. It’s time to give back.
2. Tote bags from Out of Print
Are you a book lover? Get your favorite book cover printed on a tote and rock it everywhere you go. Thanks to a partnership with Books for Africa, a book is donated for every tote bag sold.
3. Notebooks from Public Supply
Craftsmen Edward Granger, Andrew Tarlow, and Ty Williams make exquisite spreads for their rich yet down-to-earth, velvet and leather-bound notepads with plated edges. Public Supply makes all kinds of writing supplies to help finance art programs in public schools. Plus, 25 percent of all profits helps teachers in high-school classrooms who use the money for projects that drive creativity.
4. Clothes from Two Thirds
For everyone who loves the beach, Two Thirds is a clothing store dedicated to the appreciation and conservation of the oceans. They organize trash-picking tours and donation campaigns. Their clothes are made from sustainable products in Portugal, so rest assured no sweatshops in Asia were involved in the making of these clothes. They have it all, from t-shirts to coats, and knit sweaters. It all comes with a sweet design and usually ocean-themed images and colors.
5. Jewelry from Starfish
The Starfish Project brings back hope to sexually exploited and trafficked women in Asia, giving them jobs creating beautiful jewelry. In this life-changing joint program with Holistic Care Programs, women, many of which have been hired out of brothels, create beautiful jewelry and become managers, accountants, graphic designers, and photographers.
6. Anything from (RED)
From Beats by Dre and iPhones, to condoms and Amazon Echo… A quick look at the list of products they offer lets you know just how great this organization. Back in 2006, Bono --yes, THE Bono-- set up a collaboration with the world’s most iconic brands. Their mission: beat HIV/AIDS forever. Each company releases their own iconic product but in a vibrant red color. Then they donate a portion of each product’s profits in order to fund the battle against AIDS and other diseases. So, take a look at what they offer and if you like something, why not join the fight?
All of these presents are a way of giving something back or “paying it forward,” if you will. So why not try a guilt-free kind of Christmas? Which of these would you like to give your loved ones? Most importantly, which would you like to give yourself? Let us know in the comments!
