Charles and William convinced the Queen to strip off Andrew’s titles, sources claim

A source close to the family claims that the decision was made for the sake of the monarchy.

It seems that the decision of the Queen to strip Prince Andrew of his military titles and patronages was pushed from Prince Charles and Prince William, according to a new report published in the Daily Mail

According to sources close to the family, discussions about Prince Andrew’s oust began even before a court in the US decided to continue a trial against him for sexual assault claims; and it was Charles and William who were “instrumental” in those talks.

"This is about the survival of the institution at all costs. Always has been and always will be," the senior royal source told the outlet.

Even further, sources claim it was the Queen herself to communicate the decision to Andrew, who is considered to be Elizabeth’s favorite.

The report came after Buckingham Palace announced that the military titles and patronages in possession of the Duke of York would be returned to the Queen and that he will continue to face his trial as a private citizen.

He will also stop being referred to as His Royal Highness.

According to The Guardian, it was Queen Elizabeth who have decided that Andrew will stop taking public duties since the allegations of sexual misconduct went public, but he could still keep his titles such as colonel of the Grenadier Guards, honorary air commodore of RAF Lossiemouth, colonel in chief of the Royal Irish Regiment, and royal colonel of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
